Idk that I trust the knock sensors on E85 to be honest. I pull plugs either way. Did the last engine show knock?

The stock block that BES did for me showed no signs of knock, I log almost every pass, it ran for 1 1/2 years flawlessly.

The ford sportsman block showed no signs of detonation either, plugs looked great, log looked great. I was putting a new breather on and happened to notice a little coolant. We thought that we just didn't get the head gasket in right. The car just came off a great run with logs that looked perfect.

didn't sound funny or act funny.

Longevity, IMO, is not strictly about a length of time. It can be simulated. As I said, time will tell, then proof will be in the pudding or a puddle.

As to L&M, I was aware of your view, my comment was strictly due to the fact that your view is influenced by what your discussions with MMR have been. I think all of our views are influenced by those around us.

Wishing you continued success.

I do think we get influenced. But as I said. I am not speaking strictly to the L&M block, it's all the blocks, including the mmr block.

And yes, you can "simulate", but I haven't seen anyone putting the kind of testing like ford does simulating tons of miles.

To simulate say 2 years of drag racing passes. You would need to be at the track 3 to 4 days a week for the last 5 months making 5-10 passes a day. I doubt anyone has done that.

Tuning with E85 does make relying on knock sensors more difficult IMO. It is SO hard to make E85 detonate. So hard in fact that you can actually have issues with excessive cylinder pressure before any detonation can happen (egging cylinder walls anyone?).

The coyote blocks seem to be the first modular blocks to have major issues approaching the 1k mark reliably. I have nothing to base this on, but I wonder if the change in firing order has created some sort of harmonics that exacerbate the stresses that the blocks are seeing compared to the rest of the modulars.

It's the block design.

I know the more open water jackets are the main cause, but seeing the valley crack after strengthening the jackets aren't typical of a modular block. It seems like the coyote block has strength similar to the cammer big bore block.

This makes no sense. The cammer big bore block is good to like 1500 hp from what I've seen.

Ford should cast a few of these 5.0 blocks in that same iron material that the cammer block is made of an see what power they hold. You'd pay a relatively small penalty in weight, but I suspect durability would improve noticeably.

Is the 5.0 block cast with the semi open deck for a reason besides maybe casting simplicity?

I would love to see the sportsman block in iron form. I would take the weight penalty without a doubt

The egging of the bores, is that from power made in the bore or the stress on the block from the power transfer of the engine to chassis/driveline?

+1

Make it stronger and cheaper. Iron block + carbon fiber hood. Strength is no longer a concern and weight is closer to evening out

Yeah but when you are pushing 1200 HP and running FI you can always up the boost just a little bit to compensate for the extra weight. Hell there is only a 75lb. difference between the Boss Big Bore block and the 5.0 so I can't imagine that that an Iron block 5.0 would be more than 200lbs.

I'm talking about the block that was used in the n/a cammer motor from FRPP. Not the Cast iron BB block.

I don't think there is one until they revise the revision Lol. Rgr has a support system that's been working and l&m has there tornado block that's working.

No I won't be, my local builder will. No idea what it weighs yet. But this is different than I have seen anyone do yet, and not just the deck, but the sleeves also. I've got some other stuff coming up as well but won't mention until copyrighted and patent filed. But it should really spice some things up with it!!!!
