Well, I've heard what I'd consider to be excessive valvetrain noise on the 5.0 since the 2nd day of ownership. 10/12 to be exact.
I've had several people listen to get outside opinions, but nobody else seems to agree with me.
Last week, against everything in my blood, I took my car to the dealer to have them take a look.
They told me that they didn't hear it at first, but after comparing it to 2 other 5.0's on the lot that it was a noticeable difference in the valve train noise. They said that the car was half a quart low and that they topped it off and the noise stopped. That I could pick up the car and everything was good.
I came and got the car, and it was making the same noise on my way home. I knew the oil wasn't low, because I had just changed the oil the weekend before with 8 quarts of Mobil 5w20.
I called the next day, and let them know the noise was still there, and that I would have to bring it back in later.
I finally brought it back today, and they had some "specialist" come out and verify what the "master mechanic" had concluded. They collectively determined that they would have to tear down the motor!
I am going tomorrow morning to meet with the "master mechanic", and decide if I want to give the authorization.
Here's where I'm unsure of what to do... Should I have them tear down my 2 month old motor with 2829 miles, or just see what happens over the next 3-4000 miles?
Supposedly this "master mechanic" has been working with Ford for 26 years, and just got back from a 2 week training course on the new 5.0.
They will also be flying some engineer to work with this "master mechanic" to determine what could be the problem.
I think I'll go ahead and let them tear into it. I've read of a few others having some valvetrain noise, but I really don't think this is right.
I've tried to capture it on video, but can't seem to... It almost sounds like an exhaust leak.
Any of you 5.0 guys had any issues with valvetrain noise? I know there's been talk about increased noise after changing the oil, but nothing from the factory...
