Anybody know anything about fishfinders?
I'm looking at getting a Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 with structure scan Gen 1.
My other choice is the hummingbird Side imaging.
it appears as the Lowrance unit is good in downscan to 300ft
the hummingbird is 250ft.
Can anybody tell me their experiences with either brand?
I fish in salt water usually at depths of 200-300ft
I'd like to know peoples depth limitations with these devices.

I use a lowrance hds 8 with side scan and have had no problems with it. The structure scan seems to be pretty spot on as well as the features of it. Only fish lakes and rivers of depths maybe up to 100ft by the dams. Have heard of some people complaint that water has got inside and ruined them. But I think they may have fixed that issue. Have not heard much about the hummingbird. But what I have has been good.

Alot of the earlier HDS systems were not water tight.
And many had to be returned.
I hope these newer generation units are better.
I think I am going to pull the trigger on this setup.
I hope it can do what they advertise.
