Your buddy may want to re-evaluate the miles on the Novi 1000 kit. There's a considerable amount of dirt/grime on those parts for "200 miles".

There is no need to reevaluate anything.
It was installed at the shop, driven 200 miles by the customer, blew out a headgasket, and then taken out by the shop and put on a shelf.
