I have heard that you can block off the front area around the hood to get the hood floating to stop. It's something I want to try. I have also heard that even the Tiger Racing hood will float without some kind of air blocking around the hood lip. It's all just "heard", but might be cheaper than buying a new hood.

About 15sec after I got my 2007 I tried to block everything off. And did. It was so tight with rubberized foam weather stripping that you could barely shut it. Still had a ton of hood float.

We've had Tiger hoods. Zero float.:highfive:

My GT500 hood doesn't float either.

Love seeing the hot air escape at stop lights causing a mirage effect on the TR Hood.

Hood flutter? What's that?

That's what I say, as well. (This one was steady up to 143.3 MPH on this road)

just stumbled across this thread - does puzzle me why more people don't do this...

as it's OEM Ford it bolts straight on, no cutting or specialist fitting needed - job jobbed as people say

We've seen these "heat plume" images on other hood designs as well.

This effect is even more pronounced when the radiator has a duct box sealed to the hood.

Making this is very time consuming and beyond the fab skills of most folks. Its appropriate for race cars but not really for street cars.

Just adding something like the the TR hood helps, and is much easier than making something that is sealed to the radiator, rolling the radiator, etc.

Whoa...your car looks great.

Is that the fiberglass Tiger Racing hood? Does it do ok without hood pins?

Thanks man, I've spent a lot of time trying to tastefully customize it to my liking. And yes it is the Fiberglass version. If I were to do it again I would have gotten the CF version as mine cost more in prep work for paint than the original cost of the hood shipped to my home. I see very little shaking. Its almost like flexing as the hood is susceptible to that. Nothing concerning tho and I've had it 100+mph. Hood pins are never overkill tho for this hood. I may do it in the future but as of now, nope. Next thing if I decide to push the project further would be a MaxMotorsport cage and a built motor with clutch.

Wouldn't the CF version of this hood require the same amount of prep work?

You could be right but the guy that did the work on it said it wouldn't have. I personally have no clue. Just using his advice. Total the hood cost me over 3k

How so? I have been told a couple of times to just throw some vinyl over them and they would be good to go.

Lime most carbon you could see the weave right through the paint. The "pretty" carbon fiber out there is not light because it has to have so much gel coat on it.

Vinyl would solve it though.

I also didn't mean that to sound like I'm down on TR. Carbon is carbon. it's part of the package.

No doubt, it is a race only piece so I wouldn't expect it to be show quality or anything like that. As long as it isn't wavy looking that would be cool. I had just assumed that you meant that like it was all jacked up and stuff. The one I saw looked to be ok but it was at the Ford Racing trailer so I wasn't sure if they tried to make that one look pretty.

Great info. A local shop quoted me $500 ish to paint a fiberglass hood...so i assume that there must have been a lot of prep work required?

Your mod list and eye for visual choices look pretty damn good...any pics of your car are very welcome!
