my car always seems to run better hotter than cooler

+1... to a point. The trans and oil definitely need to be up to temp. And as far as coolant temp, mine seems to work best if its at 180 when I roll into the water box. Anything cooler than that, and it doesn't run as well. And anything over 200, and it falls off.

you'll never get a better pass in your life than pre-noon JDM day. up until that sun hits 12 noon, with the cool air and JDM employees keeping the track prepped you will never get a better chance to run your car in your life.
