My brand new aftermarket TOB crapped out on me this weekend and I need to replace it. Has anyone compared 05-10 throwout bearings to the 11-17 throwout bearings? Ford has two different part numbers for them and two VERY different prices. The 05-10 is $240 and the 11-14 is $100. McLeod has a new OEM style replacement for 05-17, so I'm thinking that 05-10 and 11-14 are pretty similar.

I am not using an aftermarket replacement again, so obviously I would like to save $140 if I can.

Exedy 350 for a 3650 and a stock Coyote flywheel

I'm going to guess you over extended the slave,

It's a bit of a PiTA but you need to pull the FW/clutch and take some measurements to see if you need to shim the slave.

Measure the top of the crank flange from the block flat surface. Not sure what the Coyote is but on the cast 3v crank the flange was .15" .. Kellogg crank , .19"

Torque the PP down on a bench and measure the PP finger height. Depending on the FW that measurement can vary quite a bit. I had a Mach500 and the finger height measured 3.125" on a RAM billet steel FW.

Install the new slave on the tranny, Put a straight edge across the front of the transmission and measure from the front of the trany to the top of the slave.

I use the SACHS SB60225 slave. It measures 2.65" from the face of the tranny. Measure the separator plate and add that to the 2.65" 3v 3650 plate is .07"

Slave depth is then, 2.72"

Calculate the preload, , [PP finger height+crank flange is how far the clutch sits back in the bellhousing] - slave depth..

In my case.. [3.125"+.19"]= 3.315"-2.72" = .595" preload on that setup.

For comparison I used an ACT clutch on the OE 3v FW and found out the hard [$$$] way it was way too shallow on the cast crank.

[3.05"+.15"]-2.72= .480"= Overextended slave ..

I popped 2 before one of the guys I work with told me how the LSx world needs to run shims under their slaves.

You don't want less than .500" , for added margin, I use .525" to be the minimum.

Thanks for the info. I may measure it all up tonight. I have about 10k miles on the setup right now and it just started last week. I imagine if I overextended the slave, it would have popped almost immediately?

Local dealer hooks it up and I need it ASAP. Driving the car around with a leaky TOB is not confidence inspiring.

I measured with my eyes and the coyote TOB appeared to have the same dimensions. It works for now (lol) and I maybe saved $140 if it doesn't asplode on me

Any difference in engagement point? Keep this updated if you have any future issues with this slave, or if it looks like it'll last a while.

Curious why the 05-10 slave jumped in price. It used to be cheap(er). I got a Ford OEM unit from Rockauto for $120 when I tempted fate with a CenterForce DF, and my $210 Exedy clutch kit came with a doorman (which is still in use).

Engagement feels a little different, but I think there is still some air in the system
