Shifter in neutral and trans in 1st

I was driving my car and got to a stop, put the trans in 1st,took off and tried to shift to second and shifter is stuck in neutral but the trans is still in 1st,any ideas why?Im trying to fix it my self and not go to the dealer,could the shifter linkage be stuck or is it the trans?

Crawl under the car and take a look. More than likely your linkage came loose and bound up on something.

That or a shift fork is bent...

Got under the car,didnt see anything broken,I can move the shifter arm from side to side but cant get it to go in gear,the shifter looks and feels free.The shift fork is located inside the trans?

Dang it I guess I'll be calling the dealership tomorrow and here the excuses that my warranty has been voided.....

I'm guessing the linkage came loose, bound or dis-lodged.

Dealer came and picked up my car,they dropped the trans and everything went into place I guess and is shifting correctly now.They opened it and sent pics of the 1st gear synchronizer to ford and ford said to replace the whole 1st gear assembly.
