Jimbo, I appreciate the opinion but how many 2014 Mustangs have you driven? The final gearing ratio in my new car with 3.55 gears and 28" tall tires is LOWER than the Bullitt with 3.73 gears and 27" tire. 3.55 gears in this one is equivalent to 4.10 gears on the older ones.

Probably a stupid question, but does this have to do with the 5 spd vs 6 spd?Beautiful car, congrats!

I think the MT-82 is just geared much lower than the Tremec gearboxes. They are not comparable, 3.73 gears with the 3650 or 6060 isn't anything like 3.73 gears with the MT-82. Probably closer to 3.31 gears with the MT-82.

If I end up swapping in the T56 Magnum then I'll need 4.10 gears to end up at about the same gearing I'm at now.

I'll let you folks do the maths. Rear gear x tranny gear = final gear. Then factor in rear tire diameter.

Driven a 2011 automatic...and a 2012 manual, that's it..and that's a year ago.
The auto had a 3.15 rear gear. ( 1942 rpm @ 70 mph in 6th with the 3.15)
The 2012 manual had the optional 3.73 rear gear..... (2166 rpm in 6th gear @ 70 mph with the 3.73). ( 1922 rpm @ 70 mph with the 3.31)

BTW, I was sure the 11-14 cars ( manual) all came with a 3.31 rear gear... (and an optional 3.73). Are you saying the 2014 now comes with a 3.55 rear gear ??

To do this right, you really need to make up a spread sheet with max speed in each of your MT-82 gears @ red line vs various tire diameter's vs various rear gears.

See my previous post with all the various gear ratios for all the tranny's.
BTW, how much rpm do you have..in 6th gear @ 70 mph ?? Mine is 2100 rpm with my 2010 auto...and a 3.31 rear gear (.71 OD) ...and a 26.97" tall rear tire on a 10" rim. ( nitto-555's, 285-40-18).

With the simple mods like LT's, DS, 91/93 tune..and the correct rear gear, it will be a rocket...and no blower required. Typ with those mods, folks see aprx 430 rwhp....which is plenty for a street car.

If you really want to go crazy, VMP has just released it's all new gen-2 TVS-2300..which flows 18% more air than it's gen-1 (and gen1 flows a helluva lot more than the roush TVS-2300). Gen-1 has the D shaped elbow. Gen-2 has a massive intake, and no separate elbow. The casing + elbow are all now one piece. Even the Roush 2300 will do 575-625-675 crank hp..and that's with a roush tune and no LT's. 585 rwhp with a roush 625 crank hp blower is typ. The vmp gen-2, with a 93 tune + LT's will make a lot more..... but how much do you really need for a street car ? If you are still into drag racing, go for it.

If it was me, I'd try the LT's / DS /93 tune / rear gear 1st for several months. Those 8 x plastic runner's won't heat soak like a roush /vmp aluminum intake manifold + 2300.

As I figured, 5th gear is 1.00 instead of 4th. I've been skipping first gear and starting out in second a lot of times.

Installed my new MGW shifter today. Less than 750 miles on the car and I just couldn't take the stock shifter any more. Instead of fighting the driveshaft I just dropped the front four bolts and kicked it off to the side. Made access much easier.

My opinion may be biased slightly since this is my first brand new car in over 25 years (last new one was a 1988 F150), but I think this car is far better than the Bullitt in almost every way. Ford is making advances at an astronomical rate right now. I can't believe this car is only 5 years newer than the Bullitt.

The 5.0 is amazing. Smooth and strong, as strong as the 3v with the M90. I have a light tick but it's probably an injector.

My biggest gripe is the huge whale tail blocking my view out the rear window, and the ugly Dumbo ears on the rear quarter panels. I'm not big on the look but I promised myself I'd give it 6 months to get used to it. At that point I may be looking for a new trunk lid to have painted so I can lose the wing, and the body shop will remove the side scoops for $100.

I'll run the MT-82 until it gives me problems but so far it's solid. The new shifter should help firm up the feel up top.

Any suggestions on exhaust? Just looking for axle backs right now. I liked the deep tune of the Borla Touring I had on the Bullitt but I'm keeping the cats on this one for now. I also wasn't fond of the crappy cheap rolled tips on the Borla Touring. They are expensive as well, $700 range.

I found these Bassani Street Race mufflers on clearance at AM. Much better looking tips and with cats intact it's not going to be too loud I would guess. Any feedback on these or other good options?

They are good just with the stock mid pipe IMO. If you remove the resonators it gets pretty loud and with no cats it's plain out deafening.

My GF's brother has resonator delete with corsa quad mufflers on his '14, with stock mid and it sounds nice and mellow.

I have Flowmaster Super 10s welded in on the stock axle backs with the stock tips welded on. Looks factory, sounds dead sexy! I love the sound, so does everyone that I know.

Ask Ryan about that haha. They are a wee bit raspy up top though.

I have the FRPP SVT Sports and they have a nice sound to them and are relatively quiet like all FRPP/Borla mufflers until you step on it.

Roush axle back with x pipe sounds simply amazing. Trust me. She sounded so good I wanted to kill myself when they drove her off :(

Not too loud either, just leave the cats in if you get the Roush. Or add some big resonators before the factory ones lol.
