Some of us have been on it in Mustangs and it is as the video shows.

I rode bikes for many-many-years and I can tell you that some of those on The Tail are CRAZY !!!

It's a fun 11-miles with just a little common-sense ............

Terry

BTW,

We did meet a Semi on the way back down the Tail !!!

My best friend owns US129Photos.com

If you decide on pics from him, shoot me a PM first.
I'll get him to add you a Dragon logo to your pics, if you'd like.
Something like that.

My sig pic is from the Dragon and he did all the photoshop work to it.
I think he did an excellent job.

BTW...I live 20 minutes from the Dragon.
Anyone coming up, shout at me.

I'll probably be ordering a few from each of the 3 photographers that got photos of my car. I actually saw your sig photo on his website and immediately recognized it! I'm a designer so I prefer to start with plain images, but I do appreciate the offer. My thinking is that it's much easier to add later than to remove it. I just want a nice wallpaper for my computer and maybe a poster printed, but I have relationships with my own printers that I like to give my business to. While the work to the photos isn't my personal taste, it is REALLY well done.

Did TN ever finally do something about semi's trying to use that road? I remember when we lived in TN years ago my father-in-law went through it on his bike and warned me about them coming into the wrong lane or being stuck. This was about 4 or 5 years ago though so it could have changed since then.

There are PLENTY of warning signs for truckers up there and on the way up. Part of the problem is that once you're up there, there's NO turning around. Not even with a 1000-point turn. The only places trucks could turn around are about a mile before it starts and in the parking lot of the gift shops at the very end.

Watched the vid. Why on earth are big rigs allowed on that road?

Beats me. There are signs, but I would think that truckers that have been driving for their whole life that are a little more skilled might not understand the gravity of the situation they're about to encounter. They really need signs with a tally of the number of trucks that have gone down. Even if the trucks were at a CRAWLING pace, there's just not enough room up there. There's hardly enough room in some turns for a mid-sized SUV to get through without putting some tires on the outside stripes.

Stupid bastard brought that shit on himself.
He asked for that.

Absolutely. Clearly not experienced. Plenty of bikers pass in turns (because it's pretty much all turns), but never in a blind turn turning to the outside on a cruiser. Would I be concerned about his/her wellbeing? Yes. Would I feel bad for him/her? Meh.

I would've shit my pants if I met a semi halfway through a turn, and I was pacing myself the first time through to get a lay of the land. I think it takes more than a "little" common sense. Lots of people just passing through laying on their brakes all the way through. Sure, you think you're being responsible keeping your speed down, but by mile 8 your brakes are loofas at best.

Your right stock brakes would take a beating.

I sometimes forget that people do have stock cars and certainly brakes.

I thought both states outlawed semi's on there. But maybe I'm wrong.

It's possible. I just remember seeing signs encouraging truck drivers to take an alternate route. I can't confirm 100% either way.

Looks like a great time man!

It was. I highly recommend it. Unless you're on stock tires and suspension. In that case I'd call it "An Exercise in Shitting Your Pants and Kicking Your Ass End Sideways Down a Mountain." Has a ring to it.

the red interior is why i bought this car. i love love love the red interior. love love your porno red mustang.!!!!!! the first time i went with wife and i had to pull over because she was getting green... so my buddy went with me the next year and he too got sick... but he loved it.... The motorcycles are crazy on this road... i have seen accident after accident on this road.. saw a full dress harley take a spill because he was leaning to hard and his food peg grabbed the ground and it was over....it is a must to take this road once in a lifetime if not more...

are the cops still in every corner? the last time i was there you didn't dare speed or cross the yellow line....

I think I need a new set of swaybars, then I say this would make a great drive for the North Georgia guys this fall.

If you guys end up going, please post up on here. I would defintely drive over from Huntsville to go.

Why not have an informal s197forum.com meet in the area?
Set it up like sometime mid/late October, before leaves blanket the roads.
Set the date, whoever shows up...shows up.

Just don't set it up for 3rd weekend in October.
That's TN-Bama weekend!
LOL

Yup, I wouldn't even think about running that road without my radar detector. They may only show up to put on a show and make examples out of speeders once every 6 months, but with my luck I would show up on that day.

About 5 years ago I made a cross country trip in my pickup. While in northern California I drove route 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg, 33 miles of twists and turns. Took me over an hour without a single side road, stop sign or traffic light and only about 20 oncoming cars passed by. I was exhausted by the time I got to the PCH. Here's a link to show the road I'm talking about. http://goo.gl/maps/Eg8dA
