Looking for an all around tire for my SGT. Just picked up a set of 18x10 SVE in dark stainless to replace the 18x9/18x10 GT4's on the car now. Car sees a variety of uses, has the FRP K springs, Koni Yellow, BMR watts, lower control relo brackets, FRP sway bars that came on the 07-08 Shelby GT's. I hit the track 1-2 time per year for fun so looking for an all around tire. I currently have Nitto 555's in 275/40 up front and 285/40 out back. The car doesn't see rain. Putting out 490+ to the tires.

I found the Toyo and was curious if anyone has any experience?

Thanks for the feedback.

I have heard (meaning no experience) that they get greasy feeling on the track very quickly do to the weight of the S197 plat form.

Thanks for the info! I may just bite the bullet and pay the extra $$ for the Michelin Pilot Sports. The Nitto's are great for DD, cruising pretty quite etc. I've tracked them a few times and they held up pretty well but they certainly lack the grip on the track. I've also looked at the INVO's as the are rated a little softer 240 vs. the 555's at 300.

I use the NT05, and will probably buy them again next year. I considered the Toyo R888, but I daily the car, rain or shine, and I heard they kill you faster than a british nanny with parkinson's.

I currently have a set of NT05's as well as an older set of Nitto 555 Extremes.
Also been through a few sets of NT01's. Overall, very happy with all the Nitto tires.

If you were looking for better times on the road course, Toyo RA1's are fantastic!

Mitch what are your thoughts on the NT05? decent all around tire? I'm sure it has got to be better than the 555 on the road course.

NT05...fine unless the goal is to go fast on a 200TW tire. They're probably the slowest one of the bunch. If you're using it for non-competition go for it, otherwise you'll want something better.

IMO the NT01/R888 are in no-mans land. Not fast enough compared to a 200TW tire to justify the halved life and therefore effectively doubled price (unless you just gotta have those 305/35/18's, which is an awesome size) and not fast enough compared to a true DOT R-Comp to be competitive where an R Comp is required.

I've run R888 and RA1s (albeit 17"). Unlike the R888s, the RA1s like to scream a LOT. I don't find them greasy. Don't over inflate them or they will get greasy very fast. I've found that 38psi hot are fine given my setup (mild springs, 3670lbs car)

The R888s seemed to scream less, but they are in my mind comparable to the RA1s.

Having said all this, I'm not sure what the real gain compared to the NT01s is. Given the class system I run, putting anything better than an RA1 or R888 bumps me to the bottom of the next category (not a fun place to be - lol).

my less than 2 cents.

Thanks for all of the info! I exceeded the limits of the Nitto 555's a few years back and did $1,300 worth of damage with an off track excursion so the feedback is appreciated.

R888s

I had the Bridgestone XE11s as DD tires and they were awesome! Great life considering they were 180tw and worked good at the track for a street tire gave great traction on the street. I run r888s on the track now and they are a huge step up. I dropped 9 seconds per lap at VIR on the full course.

True story...Went from 2:27-28 average for 2 weekends to a 2:18-20 average with no other change except tires. And both within 2 weeks of each other at VIR with no other changes and almost identical weather. Upper 90's and humid as heck! Just added coil overs and 525/250 springs so hopefully can make use of the r888s even better.

That's a pretty long lap. I keep forgetting how long the VIR full course is. When I was racing bikes down there we used the North Course.

Still, 4.5sec on a 1:15 lap is a lot.

It could be sticky tires making up for a bad handling car. Not really sure. But Ill know in 2 weeks when I go back for the NASA event and try out these coil overs. If I don't get down to 2:14 you'll see a blue Roush Mustang for sale in the classifieds.

What does a AI car run around there?

2:12-2:16 for most of the ones I've seen. And then there is Mike Roush who drifts around the track. I think I timed him at around 2:09. I'm not sure if he is on this site or not, but the guy can drive.
