I have a stock 3650 5 speed in my 07 gt. The trans has been rebuilt twice and needs it again. I have tons of money in clutch, driveshaft, shifter etc. I thought about a tremec xl magnum or a tko 600 but I can't use any of the parts I have for the swap. Is there a better trans out there what I have and be able to use my existing parts

I would get the XL kit from Jpc and put all of your aftermarket stuff for the 3650 in the classifieds and recoup some cash

This thread will probably get moved...

A tr6060 swap can be done for about $2000. Get rid of that 3650, you cant make a silk purse from a pigs ear, as they say

Go with a 6060. It's a much better transmission than the 3650. You would be money ahead had you done this first. I know you can't go back in time to recoup that money but you can stop the bleeding right now.

LaPointe auto recyclers will sell you a good condition used 6060 for around $1600 shipped. No reworked 3650 can compare to the triple syncros, larger gears, and 26 spline input shaft. Plus you have another gear so there are more choices for the rear gears.

Before I put a 6060 into my car I examined the 3650 choices. At the time Liberty and Promotion were the companies I talked to. Wally at Promotion sounded like he just took a hit when I talked to him. He wasn't able to complete a thought or answer a question.

When I talked to Liberty gear they told me that the only upgrade worth doing on a 3650 was the input shaft and forks. Once the input shaft is upgraded then the small gears become the weak points and they will break with increased power. They also told me that the syncros were inferior and no amount of polishing or treating gears would ever make them hold the power of the 6060 gears. I was ready to put a lot of money down with Liberty and they convinced me to only do the input shaft and forks if I did it. They recommended getting a used 6060 above a reworked 3650.

I followed their advice and am glad I did. The 6060 swap is cheaper than a reworked 3650. It's stronger and it shifts so much better than a 3650. Research blown 3650 gears, it happens. Research blown 6060 gears and input shafts, it doesn't happen.

In the end it's your money. I'm giving you my first hand experience that was obtained when I was going through something similar to what you are. The biggest difference is that I was proactive and still had a useable 3650 to help offset some of the costs involved.

Here's the parts needed for a decent price:

26 spline clutch that will work with stock pp and flywheel

6060 shifter linkage and shifter handle with boot.

6060 crossmember.

Those parts would cost you under $200 if you bought them all in his buy it now listings. If you won the auctions it would be less than $130 at current prices. You would also save by combining shipping.

I was able to use my dynotech 3650 driveshaft with the 6060. If you shop around sometimes stock gt500 driveshafts pop up for good prices.

Here's a couple on ebay for under $150 shipped.

These parts won't always be around. If you ever think you will buy a 6060 scoop these cheap parts up, they aren't going to lose value.

Using these parts and a $1600 shipped gt500 transmission you will be under $2000. No core charge and all shipping included.

If you have the cash then go with the JPC Magnum. No question that's the best available.

TR6060 Is a great choice.
2013-2014 gt500s only came with a manual, keep your eyes open for someone doing a swap to an auto.

WOW BruceH. Great information! I always wondered how much a swap to a 6060 would be. I have an 06 GT with of course the TR3650. I assume the parts needed would be the same? If so, for $2k this would be a definite maybe in the future!

I may know someone selling his magnum xl which is a farrrrrrrrrr better trans than the 6060 and will handle the abuse of hard launching and powershifting unlike the 6060. he's looking at a 4r70w swap so if he does it will be complete with a spec twin disc clutch, driveshaft, scattersheild, crossmember, shifter, the whole nine yards. i'll keep you posted

But the shifter mounting is not

Hence the word "essentially."

The DOB shifter will correct that, and likely for much less than the current cost offset.

The only other non cosmetic difference I'm aware of are the synchros.

Essentially the bell housing is different as is the tail.

Shifter and transmission are also essentially different parts

Dave, you can't argue facts with Dub. He's always right, which is why he put you in your place so handily.
