Looking to hand detail my car. Which wax brand would be good to buy? I looked into Zaino product, but they only have polishes and not wax.

I use "Mothers" brand of waxes, and only the "Reflections" line that they carry. It is hard to find in my area. I pick it up at a car show I go to.

I use Megiaurs all day long. The NXT works great for me. I use a buffer to put it on and hand wipe it off.

3m makes a real good wax...I forget the name right now. But it has a big 3m mark on top of the bottle.

and x2 on the nxt. I have used it before. one of the easiest to wipe off after drying.

NXT works great on dark colors too. The Meguiars Ultimate detailer spray works well with it too.

Quick question.

1. Do you want a long lasting durable wax (i.e it will last for 6 months or longer with moderate depth and shine.)

2. Or do you want a very deep, shiny wax (i.e what you see on show cars)

If you want the first kind go with a synthetic wax. tend to last much longer and still provide good shine and depth.

some good ones out there are (synthetics)

  • Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax Paste 2.0
  • Mothers reflections advanced car wax (along with) Mothers reflections advanced top coat
  • Meguiars #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0
  • Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealent
  • Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze
All of these are really good and roughly in the same price range as one another, i would recommend any of these products if your looking to achieve a good shine and long durability. The last four i put on there are a liquid wax but can be applied by hand and come off super easy. My recommendation though on these is the Mothers Combo.

Now if you want a carnauba based wax with super depth and and a high level off gloss then try these out

  • Meguiars Mirror Glaze #26 Hi-Tech Paste Car wax
  • Poorboy's World Natty's Paste Wax (Regular or Blue. The blue is for dark colored cars works really well)
  • Pinnacle XMT 180 Wax High Gloss Carnuaba Wax. (Great for dark colored cars, but still really good on lighter colors.)
  • Mothers Californa Gold Pure Carnuaba Car Wax
Once again i tried to pick out the best bang for the buck on these but carnaubas can get pretty coslty so its all on how much you are willing to spend. I really recommend the XMT 180 Wax out of all these and i still use it myself for the dark colored cars i tend to do.

Some of these can be found at your local auto store but most of these can be bought online at Autogeek or even over at amazon. (Am i allowed to post the link to autogeek. I am unsure if its a rule or not and i don't want to disrespect any vendors. If so i am sorry and will take it down.)

Lastly if you need any help or what not feel free to shoot me a pm whenever.

Menzerna products... I used to have a detail shop and tried most brands. After getting out of the detail business I found Menzerna and it is by far the best.

Thanks for the info. I like something that is long lasting like #1 question. I read about the zaino sealant and everyone likes it. I have slight swirl marks on my car left by my stupid body shop. Is it possible to buff them out by hand polishing? Thanks.

Mothers is good. I just did my 08 in Meguiers Gold Class Paste. But nothing store bought is going to give you the same look as something like a zaino, etc...

The best stuff I've found and works great for me. I also do this 2-3 times a year.

1. Meguiars Clay bar
2. Meguiars Cleaner wax
3. Meguiars #7 Polish (put on by hand)
4. Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealent (put on by hand)
5. Meguiars NXT wax
6. Meguiars #26 High Gloss
7. Meguiars Ulimate Detailer Spray

I will never use anything else.

+1 good stuff. Here's a thread on autopia where they use it to revive some pretty messed up paint.

I also like Klasse it's acrylic based so it lasts a long time and does a good job at hiding swirl marks. Kinda expensive but well worth it. You can get that from autogeek as well.

And buffguy, you really wont be able to get rid of the swirls by hand polishing. You will need to bascially cut the clear down until it's smooth again to get rid of them. This would be done by using a DA probably a mild foam pad and mild compound (depending on how deep the scratches are). Meguiars actually sells a really good DA for about $170 (comes with two pads).

There are however plenty of products (like the ones mentioned above) that will hide these swirl marks. If you'r doing it by hand i would use klasse. You can even use a wax over klasse after the klasse has cured.

I've found that the Turtle Ice wax/detail spray work best on yellow, orange, or red cars! The stuff works great!

+1 for Meguiars..NXT Tech wax 2.0 once every 3-4 months, and Ultimate detailer spray in between..

I just waxed my car on Wed. using Next Tech wax and then I used Nu Finish Polish on the hood with a buffer. I'm not sure which one took the scratches out, but all the scratches are gone.

.

Here's a comparison of the Meguiars G-110 polisher and the Porter cable 7424, the polisher of choice by most detailers.

http://www.properautocare.com/meg1dumapo.html

The Meguiar's compared pretty good. I love my Porter Cable and does a damn good job so that says a lot for the Meguiars.
