that's a tune or fuel failure, IMHO, not power output

I don't know, you would think that would fail the piston and/or rod before taking out the cylinder wall.

Did the clip holding the con rod to the piston fail?

I was thinking massive detonation with broken ring lands and then driving with a broken piston. How they couldn't hear it?

My dad dropped a valve years ago in his race car, said he could feel a little drop in power but no tell tale sounds even though the valve head was bouncing around loose in the cylinder. Chewed up the head and left a hole in the piston almost as big as the piston itself, basically only the thickness of the skirt left.
