What has a better end result? SIP and Power Finish or SIP and 85RD? Better answer this correctly... :D

There isn't a correct answer.

Power Finish is more of a 1 pass polish, that can be used with varying pad types.

So if you don't need to compound, but do need to do some defect removal Power Finish is the tool for the job.

SIP+85rd is more for you need to compound to remove moderate-heavy swiriling, then need a good finisher (85rd) to remove the pad induced marring.

Whats SIP...?

super intensive polish. It's basically Menzerna's equivelant to Meguiars #105. But it's not as finicky to temperatures, and works a little faster, dusts less etc.

Any of yall have an opinion of the new Flex polisher over the Portercable 7424XP; as in is it worth ditching the XP for a Flex?

I am questioning it because I have something on a silver car that think should come out with Menzerna Intensive Polish and an orange pad, but it just isn't getting it....and I love new tools.

It's nice but just keep in mind there is a learning curve with it. It took me quite some time to get used to it and I still think I need another full detail to get completely 'adjusted' to it.

I've had the XP for a few months, my only complaint is the lack of variable speed trigger and the speed control is in an awkward place. It also needs a locking trigger.

Does the Flex have any of that?

This is too funny. It has all of that. :evillaugh:

It is, now that you say it. I guess sometimes the Louisiana coon ass comes out in my typing, but at least I didnt say "Meh, does it have any of dat..." while sitting on my porch shooting squirrels, chugging Natural Light and screaming "Chootem Lizbutt"; so I guess Cal State has helped me a little.

Buuuttt, if it does "have all dat", there may be an XP up for sale on here in a minute. Very tempting, I'm going do a little research.

Think of the Flex like this in terms of power. Speed 6 on a Flex would be like Speed 8.5-9 on a PC 7424 (PC only goes to 6, but you get my point). So the Flex's cutting and correcting abilities are far superior.

Flex has about 80% of the power of a Rotary, but in a random orbit dual action polisher.

The Flex is also built and engineered a ton better than the PC, but its also nearly 3x the cost. Vibration control is something the Flex has over the PC significantly.

If you don't want to learn how to use a rotary, but looking for something more than a PC and want to cut your working times down, go Flex all the way, it is ultimately better than a PC.
