Boss Motor Debate Question

My buddy bought a 2011 GT Mustang a few months back, and after a short while he came to the conclusion that his car has a 302 boss motor in it. He had said the car "felt faster" than other GT's he raced, etc. He said he did some research and ran the numbers on his motor and found that it came from a boss car. The only problem I have with that is his intake manifold is the standard coyote manifold. Now, I don't know much about mustang motors, but would this even be possible?

This friend has always....how do I say..... a little untrue about claims about his car. Just trying to figure this out.

What "numbers" did he run? Sounds to me like he's talking out of his ass.

Don't know why anyone would revert to a regular manifold on a Boss motor. If it is from the factory, the Boss intake itself is even numbered (it isn't if it is aftermarket). Are his coil covers still blue (Boss 302)? I know those can be replaced for a couple hundred, but the stock Coyote motor usually has gray covers.

There really isn't any other way, that I know of, to tell than to look for some kind of casting number I guess.

EDIT:

Maybe check for the Oil Cooler (look at the oil filter)?:

If he has one, it still doesn't mean much, but if he doesn't then I would probably call BS.

yea, totally possible that Ford pulled a limited edition Boss motor off the rack and randomly threw it in a GT on the production line... :thud:

more likely the car has a tune and he doesn't know it

Like I said, I don't know how he got these "numbers" to trace his motor. I will have to check out the color of his coil covers. I didn't see why,if someone did put a 302 motor in it, put all the time and effort to swap motors and not change over the intake manifold. His car had mods when he bought it such as lowering springs, exhaust, and tint. The only thing I could think of if his car is truly "faster" than others is maybe it had a tune locked to it.

I ran him a couple times, and each time put about half a car on him completely stock but he lost because he "was spinning too much"

Nothing to figure out. Except that your friend is a dirty little fib teller.

His claim is that the owner prior to him put the boss motor in it. Not saying Ford put it in off the assembly line. I still think he is full of crap.

I am completely ignorant when it comes to Ford motors. I have owned nothing but Mopar cars my entire life, and I have been trying to learn as much as I can about my 2012 GT and all that comes with it. It's just when he told me this....I was just like.....WTF

They do not get numbers over two digits lol... kinda like me not really grasping a "trillion dollars" Just a number I will never truly understand...

HE SAID 5.0... WOW! Then you lost them at 302. he only got the 30 and thought 3.0 was kinda small... unless it is a ricer
