i know this has been beaten to death but alot of people still not sure if needed or not.three weeks ago i install two oil separatos one in each side of the engine.today i decided to go see how much oil its been collecting if any, mines are not the clear ones from home depot so i have to take them out to see how much oil is in there.i just pulled 1.3 oz of oil from the driver side and zero from the passenger side.this car have been to the track every friday since they were install and i commute 45 miles a day as well, maybe taking it to the track have alot to do with it but none the less i was shocked to see so much oil was in the cans.
i felt i should let you guys know for future reference or questions about it but after seeing how much oil gets collected i recommend evryone to get one.

i have update pictures of how much oil i collected at 1500 miles in page 4

True, but a separator is the right solution only in N/A cars. I think forced induction cars should use breathers, or a breather/catch can like mine.

+10000. i just said oil separator because thats what i have install and im not familiar with what a supercharge/turbo car needs.none the less something needs to be install to stop all that oil from going back to the engine.

I too have one on the driver's side...for the life of me I can figure why, if they are so important, didn't Ford seem to think so?

what does that mean? is there a way of making a home made one? or is it just a different catch can type of thing?

the clear one you can see how much oil is collecting without disconnecting it.mines is an aluminum can that you cant see inside so i have to take it out to drain it.

Mine is an 2008 and I am astonished at how much oil accumulates...its crazy.
I just wish I would have done this sooner, as in before I drove the car home from the dealers... I hate to think my intercooler is bathing in oil... :(

What seperator/breather is the best for FI cars? My car is NA now, but will be procharged in the spring. Bigray why is youre mounted up by the PCM as opposed to where steeda has theirs (uses a mounting bracket on the driverside by the firewall)?

Yeah, you can buy a water/air separator from Lowe's or Home Depot and make your own oil separator...

i almost bought that thing you speak of at lowe's .. now you are making me want to.

fyi cams will make this more of a problem.. mine does it, then it drains down the intake over night and gives slight smoke on start up.

That's just where I chose to mount mine. I have 3/8" hoses going from each valve cover to the breather/can, so it doesn't really matter where it's mounted.
