    Cams and timing

It's such a small, shallow spot, but still deep and wide enough to cause an issue with that seal, I want to apply with a razor blade to avoid sanding on that machined seal surface. The thicker putties might be a little too thick and want to just pull off while shaving the surface smooth. The JB...

That's the plan. Picked it up the other day.

    Cams and timing

Okay!....I'm back. Delays, delays, delays. Rain, overtime, etc. Took the GT500 pump out. Put in the Melling 360HV. Details will be in the GT500 Oil Pump thread later. That means everything had to come back out. Got the new pump in, reinstalled all the timing components, then did all 24...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

Not a rebuild, so looser...how much?...good question. I've been considering the Melling option. Or just going with a stock 3v pump. Really wanted higher volume and a factory part, but not crazy about higher pressure. Really should have done a pressure first.

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

Logic would say that the 3v spring being installed into a pressure relief valve bore that is shorter than the one it came from would increase the preload and in doing so, result in a higher pressure relief than it did in its original longer bore. The springs feel about the same rate...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

Go to this link and scroll thru the pics til you find the pic that includes two o-rings. Inside one of the o-rings is a metal pin. On Rockauto some of the other brands of pumps show the pin as well. Haven't found any reference to it. The two o-rings are different sizes, so I am guessing the...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

Okay, ......looks like you guys win. But not for the reasons we've been discussing. Contrary to info posted in an older thread, the GT500 housing is not exactly the same as the 4.6 3v. It was posted by someone that took apart and measured both oil pumps. According to his measuring, the spring...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

It seems the o-ring listed on Rockauto for the 4.6 3v pickup tube (oil pump seal) is for the 4.6 2v. Or mispackaged. It's just a simple neoprene o-ring, right? Ford sells them.....$39 for ten.

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

A high mileage car might not, but not all of the cars out there are high mileage, many with fresher rebuilds in them. Or, maybe worst case case, some of the cheaper rebuilds with non-oem parts in them.

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

I looked thru the Rockauto listings. In 08, the 4.6 in the Mustang used the same phaser as the F150 (both 4.6 and 5.4). All of the '13 5.0 4v's use entirely different phasers. I would take that to mean that Ford designed those phasers/tensioners around the 40-75 psi of the F150 and the 75psi of...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

All good points. And, yes, I did fall into the internet engineering trap I strive to avoid. On any forum (I do not include Facebook/social media in this as it is the most untrustworthy source for anything), over time you can usually get a feel for which members actually know what they are...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

Back to one of my original questions about that pin... Even the pics on TascaParts shows that pin. So it is a factory item, not part of an aftermarket pump What is it for and where does it go? 1999-2014 Ford Oil Pump 9L3Z-6600-A | TascaParts.com https://share.google/YUAHOnXKkYIQjVJVk

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

If I do, them I'm running a supposed 90-100 psi. And higher volume. I think I'm going to stick with the stock 80psi 3v spring and check the pressure with a mechanical gauge to get an actual baseline on my motor with its current mileage wear.

    FSM for 2008 F150 says 40-75psi for 5.4 3V and 4.6 2V. Rockauto shows Melling 340HV for the 5.4 3V and yet a different Melling pump for the 4.6 2V.
