Hi I am working on my sisters 2019 Mustang GT 5.0. I changed her VVT solenoids. The problem is I cannot remember where the part in the picture goes. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Helpfulsister444,

Just a guess but it looks like some wiring guide that sits under the fuel rail (path is around the manifold).

Got a shop manual (I am thinking probably not...) or access to AllData?

You're a good soul for fixing up your sister's GT. 5/5 brother rating.

I'm keeping my eye on your thread in case the answer is posted.

Helpfulsister444,

Looked at a Ford parts catalog (online) but couldn't find a bracket that matched. The bracket you posted looks like it supports something - maybe a bottle or a box-shaped item? The parallel plate wraps around the main part on one side and the L-shaped section could fit into a slot someplace. The holes at the ends are slotted so the piece is designed to have some movement like it is connected to a fender or the core support. Sorry, I don't have a clue where that piece fits under the hood.

I hope you figure out where it goes.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your response! I looked there as well and couldn’t find anything like it. Between my dad, my boyfriend and I, someone removed it and none of use remember where it came from. I’ve looked at pictures of other mustangs engines bays and nothing sticks out to me. I’ve watched videos of various repairs and still haven’t seen anything similar. I figured out how to add more pictures. I’m going to keep searching! I’ll keep this thread up to date.

Emily,

Thanks for the additional pictures. It looks like it might fit in a corner or fit along a vertical section of fender. Of course, it might be a horizontal bracket, lol. You can see if your local Ford dealer has a 2019 on the lot that they can pop the hood so you can take a good look around the enigne bay. That bracket has to be hiding in plain sight - mostly hidden by a panel, box, cylinder head, etc. The cowl/firewall has a bunch of stuff hanging off it so give that a good look-over, too. Bring a strong but small LED flashlight so you can see between the engine and firewall.

How much stuff near the cylinder heads and the front of the engine was removed for the parts replacement work? The reason for that question is to see if one of the parts removed to open space up around the critical work area might be looking a little off - like it needs some support. Kind of a long shot but thinking about stuff coming off might prompt a memory of where that mystery part belongs.

My model year GT has a significantly different layout of the engine bay compared to a '19 GT but I'll take a look in the morning to see if there might be a somewhat similar mystery piece lurking in the '12 bay.

Helpfulsister444,

Sorry for the late update. Nothing that matches in the '12 engine bay. The only piece that looks somewhat similar is the bracket for the ECU. This does no sound like a likely piece to be left off of the '19.

Alas, you may have to wait for a poster to answer your original question, or, you could bring that piece to your local Ford Parts Counter and see if they can identify it for you. If there is a stamped number on it, it will be an engineering/internal (to Ford) reference number but the Parts guy may be able to use it to look up the part number.

Good luck with the search. I hope you find where that piece is supposed to go (and please post back so readers are not left wondering forever).

slonison,

Thank you for the kind offer. "Helpfulsister444" has a 5.0L 2019 GT but the Ecoboost Alldata probably will help in the identification of the mystery part.

Work done was replacing the VVT solenoids so the front cover had to come off and the intake and the valve covers. My 2012 5.0 engine bay is pretty simple (no IMRC stuff, no Magneride, etc.) so I could not spot a part in my engine bay that matches or is similar to the 2019 mystery part. The mystery part looks like it may be a bracket that attaches to a fender or the core support or a strut tower... The holes are slotted to allow for adjustment so that's why I mentioned those areas as attachment points. Anywhere in the engine bay is the search area, lol.

"Helpfulsister444" has not posted any update so it's possible the location has been identified and the part installed. Or, the part is still in the garage.

Thanks for any an all help. :beerchug2:

Hi all,

Still have not identified the part. The only other thing I can think of is it might possibly be something that goes in our 2013 ford flex my dad was working on in the garage around the same time. he was replacing the battery. I don’t know how it would have ended up in the mustang area but it’s a possibility.

Thank you all for trying to help. I appreciate the support.

I'm not seeing it personally.

As for the Mustang. I watched a few solenoid replacement videos, and I didn't see anything related to this part in the removal of the air intake and then the valve cover. the only thing that remotely looks like it was related to it was a bracket for an oil catch can. Though, in the video, it looked like an aftermarket bracket. I would check the Flex more closely.

Or take a wet rag, wipe down the part and see if you see a part number pressed into it.

To me it looks like a bracket that was used as an electric cable tray or a bumper/splashguard attachment bracket? It doesn't look like its a critical part of the car. Maybe a radiator support bracket?

slonison,

Thanks very much for the photo! If my eyes are working well, it looks like there is a bracket below the fuse box that looks similar to the part that "Helpfulsister444" posted.

I agree that trying to find a number ("engineering number" is what I've seen on the forums for that type of number) on the bracket which should let the Ford parts counter guy track it down and identify what the part is and where it fits.

Thanks, again, for posting the pic!:beerchug2:

Thank you, Sir!

Yep, Kev555, that's what I initially thought and went looking at the online parts catalogs but came up empty.

It's now officially a quest, lol. Like (probably) numerous others, I have spent time trying to identify this part.
And thank you, too, Sir!

BullittSS, your help is appreciated but please don't knock yourself out searching. I looked at eBay after I looked at the online catalog and didn't see anything similar. I tried the AI search, too, and got nowhere.

I will try sending a message to Helpfulsister444 to check the thread and the photo posted by slonison. If the part is not the under-fuse panel bracket, then the search may have to continue (oh, noooo, Mr. Bill!).

Thanks for the help. Mustang owners are the best!

We had a Lady in our mustang group who had a 2016 Eco boost Mustang. There was a metal pipe rotted that supplied water to the heater matrix inside the car that came down the side of the engine and wrapped up the back to the heater pipe connections on the bulkhead. The local Ford dealer couldn't identify it on their parts software, hell I tried different engine diagrams for nights on the internet, parts for sale on online breakers and still couldn't find a part number or even a pipe that looked similar in any diagrams or websites including ford focus RS parts that shares the same engine. Eventually her mechanic found a partial part number on it when he took the part off. I just wonder how good the Ford parts software actually is if they couldn't identify that quite substantial pipe?

Kev555,

If there's a stamped number on that mystery part, it has to be traceable by some soul at Ford. I'm glad the 2016 EB Mustang lady had a sharp mechanic who tracked down the right part. Lightning can strike twice.

That's a nice looking piece of machinery in your avatar. Not quite stock...

Thanks for the post, too.

Thank you all for your help. I took a close look at the part again and no number is pressed into the part. The flex is out right now but I’ll take a look when it’s back to see if it fits in there.

That looks like part of the battery hold down on the Flex. I have seen that exact bracket before, send like it was on the battery.
