Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

If its not the main seal or cam covers that leaves just the oil pan for common issues. You need to inspect as much as you can with mirror and lighting to see if it starts above oil pan.

Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

If coming from the back of the engine it is likely to be a rear main seal, if only a small leak it's not worth replacing the seal which would require pulling the engine.

Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

Well did the job a few weeks ago, removed the timing cover and checked there was right stuff on all the appropriate points. When I did the original job I did not use a lot of silicone to avoid excess coming off and getting into the oil pan. I reviewed Mukuloco video and used his recommended...

Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

Thanks whitmanink, I have seen the video, in fact before I did the job and as I was working on the motor on an engine stand had everything clean, torqued correctly, bolts in the right place etc. and this is what puzzles me. So I will pull the timing cover and redo it.

Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

Thanks Midlife for the reply, I definitely did not put sealant on any of the fasteners so that could be the issue. I will dig into that!

Oil Leak from Timing Cover when Engine Shut Down

2007 Mustang engine with 75k miles was stored for 8 years and recently disassembled and found to be in generally good condition. It was then rebuilt with new Ford parts in timing chain assembly, rockers and lifters, con rod bearings. piston rings and gaskets. The timing cover was carefully...

    Fuel Pump Driver Module Compatibility

Just to close the loop on my post above if this might be of use to anyone in the future, the TU229HP fuel pump for the 2000 to 2004 Mustangs works just fine with the 2005+ FPDM

Clutch not fully disengaging rebuilt tr3650 new clutch kit

I installed a new Exedy complete clutch in my 2007 GT motor and 3650 tranny. I did measure and shim by 3/8 and bled the clutch until no air bubbles, but like yours wouldn't fully disengage. I then sat there and pumped the clutch maybe a 100 times and voila, it solved it. As others have said keep...

    Fuel Pump Driver Module Compatibility

I am using a 2007 4.6 3 V motor in a Cobra kit car. I will be using a Ron Francis standalone engine wiring system that utilizes the Ford ECM and all the sensors etc. I have to use a SN95 fuel tank for fit. I plan to use a Walbro TU229HP returnless fuel pump which is 255LPH. My question is...

How much oil remains in pan with engine running?

Thanks for the input, yes the pickup has to be shortened and that will be done once the welding is complete. Welding is underway, we are doing some welding and some brazing, will clean the pan with acid and give it a alkali rinse then test for leaks. The cobra steering shaft is well above the...

How much oil remains in pan with engine running?

Thanks Racer47, that is good info you have given. The car is not intended for racing but who knows what we might do in the future, but not circular track. When I look at the shallow pans from Moroso and Champ they have a horizontal section above the hinged baffles with drainage at the edges and...

How much oil remains in pan with engine running?

Thank you JC SSP for your response, sorry about lack of photo. I am keeping the stock windage tray and I believe the oil level should not be higher in the modded pan than the stock pan. So the issue is to prevent oil build up excessively laterally during cornering or forward during braking. I am...

How much oil remains in pan with engine running?

I am using a 2007 4.6 3v motor in a Cobra kit car and I have to cut 2" off the depth of the oil pan. I have widened the lower section to 14.5" so I don't loose capacity, in fact I will pickup a 1/2 quart. I am figuring about 5 1/2 quarts in the pan and 1 quart in the filter, based on pan area I...

    Best valve spring tool

In a pinch made my own with a wood clamp 3/4" black pipe nipple and cap. Drilled and tapped into the clamp to hold the pipe pieces firmly in place. Cut windows in the nipple and the plastic cap on the screw section of the clamp is perfect for fitting onto the valve head. Ok for heads off work

    Melling M340HV oil pump thoughts?

Thanks for your response GlassTop, after I asked my question I found your post of Sept 2019 regarding the PCV valve issues with this engine. After some thought about this I believe you are exactly correct on the mechanism of pitting corrosion of the cam lobes and follower rollers. The neglect of...

    Melling M340HV oil pump thoughts?

You are really clued up on this motor Glasstop. I wonder if you have any thoughts on a 2007 Mustang issue I have as follows: I bought this engine from a wrecked GT with only 70k miles on it which was stripped from the wreck and stored for several years as the owner planned to do an engine swap...
