The Missus and I have been Jones'n for some NHRA action since Pomona in November, and here we are on the opening weekend of the 2009 season. We have had our tickets for weeks, and were ready to inhale nitro and rubber, and assault our hearing.

But mother nature is being a PITA it seems. Thursday and Friday have already been washed out, and it doesn't look good for the weekend. If they don't get any qualifying in tomorrow, that would pretty much end the weekend I would think. Dammit...

I was planning on going tomorrow, but the weather killed that. Do you think you'll make it out Sunday anyway? I *might* be going and it'd be great to meet up.

I hate when there is a rain-delayed event. Last time I did that I stayed under the bleachers with everyone else from about 9am til about 3pm when Dad and I said Fuck it and left. As we were leaving we heard that they cancelled the event. I don't want to deal with that again and normally stay away in that instance.

If they don't run tomorrow, I can't see how they could run on Sunday. Without any qualifying, they certainly can't have elims on Sunday. The only thing I can see is them having 2 rounds of qualifying on Sunday, and then run the elims on Monday (assuming it doesn't rain on Sun/Mon). But that sucks for the teams, spectators and TV. I think they may have to postpone the whole thing until next week.

And I hear you on hiding under the bleachers. Back in 2001, my son and I had tickets for all 4 days. They got in a Thursday nitro session, but Fri and Sat were completely washed out. We spent most of three days hiding from the rain. It really sucked.

We had one year at Baytown that was ICED OUT!!! Yup....cold front blew in around noon. At 11am it was 84 degrees and so humid we had contrails coming off the wing at the top end of the track. By 3pm it was 21 degrees with a 40 mph wind out of the north. NHRA's goody barn was sold completely out of jackets and sweatshirts in less than 20 minutes.

We had the alcohol car apart getting ready for the first round when the winds shifted. My uncle called his wife who was in Dallas at the time. When he got off the phone he looked around and said, "Stop everything and get this bitch into the trailer right now."

Glad we did. The whole race was delayed one week.

That's bizarre weather right there.

We didn't go up to Pomona today, and they eventually got in one round of qualifying. So, the elims are on for tomorrow. But, I don't think I'm going to go. I've actually been sick the past few days, and I feel like crap.

Don't blame you. We never go on Sundays. We hit Friday (to visit with racers we know) from about noon until after qualifying is over then Saturday all day (to hit the Manufacturer's Midway for goodies, parts, and information). Sunday is nicer sitting in Dad's shop watching races on the big screen with a few cold Budweisers.

It just sucks that the tickets we bought are going to waste. At least if it had of been rained out, we would have credit for next week or next year. Now, it's just a couple hundred bucks down the drain. Chit...

fucking you is how event promoters are. I know for a fact their motto is "if it rains, you get wet". Personally I hate those bastards. THey know perfectly well no moron is about to take a 130 mph + car out on a track that has any precipitation on it. Fuckers!!!

I wan't going to there to race... just as a spectator. And after seeing it on TV tonight, we made the right call to not go today. They didn't even finish the first round because of rain. And tomorrow's forecast looks bad too.

Tough break for the opening event for the season.

Montreal Qc,
I haven't followed anything during the off season.
Are they back to running the full 1/4 mile now?

Not for the Nitro FC and TF classes, they're still 1000' for at least this year.
