Called PayPal this morning to check status of the situation. Anthony has not returned any of my emails since June 7th. The representative I contacted told me that Anthony "Onorato" did not call them and update them on any of the information that he expressed to me (saying the bank retracted the money). I do have emails of what he has said, but PayPal said since it is the Bank that is covering the amount, they will not take those as evidence.

However I think I should be good as the rep told me that the PayPal has all the correct information that it was delivered to his address and there was all the correct postage present. So from the looks the rep told me I should be covered for the amount and if not, then seller protection should be covering me.

I was pissed off at first, then I became really calm as I found this may have been a mistake, but now I've reverted to being pissed off because he hasn't said shit to PayPal.

So this guy paid you with an E-Check? Then paypal told you it was ok to ship and then they pulled the money back from you?

Anytime I've ever been paid with an E-Check paypal sends an email that says you have to wait until the check has cleared before shipment. Then they send a follow up email that tells you its "ok to ship"...

No it wasn't a e-check. I have my account setup the same way he does and like many others.

You can connect your checking account to your PayPal, so when you make purchases your PayPal account just pulls money out of your bank instantly, and then you can also move money back and forth. I like it because I only have to make a few clicks to move money back into my account.

What he did was make the purchase for $550.00. His PayPal account (linked to his bank) pulled the $550 from his Bank account and pushed it through PayPal to my PayPal account. Then either he (or the Bank) disputed the amount that left his bank account (to go to my PayPal) and the bank automatically reversed the $550, taking it back from my PayPal account all the way to his bank Account.

Electronic funds make it so easy, but in return they make this fast automation a pain in the ass to deal with when shit goes the wrong way.

That is bullshit. If Paypal told you it was "Ok to Ship" and you can show them it landed on his porch, they (paypal) should have to take the hit.

More and more I'm losing faith in Paypal.

I hope everything works out
My experience with paypal has not always ended so well
Not to alarm you but rather inform you.
I sold a pair of Oakleys (Juliets) on e bay. $350.00
Buyer paid
Oh and by the way i dont think there is a way to see what method the buyer uses, I:E bank account or credit card.
I went thru the same crap, Bank stopped the funds after I shipped the glasses
Went round and round with paypal. and of course buyer never responded to my inquires.
This is where it gets fun
Paypal told me and I quote.
Sometimes buyers change their mind or are unhappy with the item purchased and can have the payment stopped or even better, with a credit card payment dispute the purchase altogether.
Paypal can not recover these funds and this should be considered a PART OF DOING BUSINESS.
I was shocked even though the glasses were signed for on delivery, paypal pretty much told me too bad so sad.
As I stated just my experience and hopefully you get it all worked out.
Oh and if you do some research on the paypal website about charge backs
it states that sometimes charge backs happen.

Ill try to see if I can find it again
But its made me very Leary about taking money in paypal

Thanks letting me in on that experience. I've been doing business through PayPal for a long time now and I do thousands of dollars each year. This is probably the worst problem I've dealt with, that I can remember.

I really hope it all works out for me, and if not then this guy will be regretting it. I have all his information and since he used his PayPal account that is registered under his business then it will be bad news for him. I hate to pull that card out, but I can't let this matter just slide under the table.

Sounds like a dispute was filed through his bank. Real shitty situation. Hope that dude isn't trying to dupe you because I know he will not fair to well in the end. My question to you Cam is if the funds were pulled out of your PayPal balance or did PayPal dip into your account? If they did you can possibly dispute that with your bank. I had a similar situation for $300 worth of JL audio subwoofers and once I knew the buyer got them, I then transferred the amount to my account. One day later he files a dispute with his bank, his bank hits PayPal, PayPal hit my account, then I disputed the charge back with my bank.

This being a "scammer" thing is a vicious cycle. Those that do it have so much to lose for minimal gain. I mean Christ, over $500? That's not even half of what rent or a mortgage is for a decent place to live. I couldn't stomach it. Knowing what I am doing to someone else and then the thoughts of what will happen when I get caught. Everyone gets caught. I hope it all works out for you Cam.

I have Paypal linked to my work credit union account so my wife doesn't see all the mods lol. I really should use the credit card every time though for additional protection.

Something very important to remember with Pay Pal. They are a "Funding Source" but not a Bank. They do not have to follow certain Federal Standards like Banks do. With that said, if a dispute is done through Pay Pal they will possibly work with you to resolve the situation. If a Dispute is done direct with a Bank or a Credit Card they wash there hands of it 150%. My wife with her business has had it happen before. Customer purchases a product. Brand new. Use the product, modify the product and then decide they don't like it or want it. Contact my wife and she says I am sorry it is now used and modified so we can't do anything for you. Customer opens a Pay Pal dispute and Pay Pal finds in our favor. Customer loses right? Not! Customer then contacts the Credit Card and disputes it that way. Pay Pal gets on there Knees and takes it good. We then lose.

Pay Pal can be a great thing. However, because of the standards they follow it allows a buyer to legally steal from a seller sometimes.

So let me understand the story better:

You had an item for sale.
The buyer said I want it and paypal'd the money over.
Paypal said review of payment dont ship yet.
You shipped.
Guy didnt really have the money.
Guy gets the parts.
Paypal tells you sorry review of payment was declined?

I respectfully do not agree with your post. I had someone try to pull the same thing on me but paypal said if they cannot retun the item in the same condition as received then they will deny the claim. I wont on that and it wasn't a cheap transaction.

That is true. The customer sent the item back and we were able to prove that the item was not new. Once the customer went through the Credit Card source and not Pay Pal, everything changed.

Either way it sucks for sure. As a vendor she was out cost, profit and then some!

Ahhh now I understand. I had proof the guy said he damaged or used the product. They wouldnt let him send it back after that. He had the item for over 3 months aswell!

I didn't leave it because I usually wait until they leave it for me, so I can confirm all is OK, after this happened and wasn't sure of what the real story was, I just didn't leave it yet.

If it is, this is all true, except PayPal said it was OK to ship since it was an instant payment unlike a e-check or what not. Everything went down like a normal bank transfer PayPal transaction, except for the part where Anthony told them that he didn't make this transaction. However, what I am waiting on is for the Bank to see that he said he didn't make a transaction, but there is proof that the item was delivered to his front porch.

Either way it sucks! You go to Best Buy and buy a TV. Take it home and drop it. What do you think Best Buy is going to do for you?
