It's mainly the way it mounts the rear end of the shifter to the body. This divorced shifter design threw some aftermarket engineers for a loop and they got their designs to work by simply fabricating and arm, mount, and lower joint for the shift shaft. Only thing they missed was the way its mounted to the tunnel/body... Look at the stocker and Hurst assemblies and you can see that it's basically a stock assembly powdercoated gray and has just the actual shift knuckle assembly different. Also notice how they re-use the u bracket and bushing (urethane on the hurst) for the tail of the shifter. The rear end design of the stocker and Hurst is ideal because of the constant movement of the drivetrain. The Hurst billet and Roush shifters are the same design, but just have a billet body. Now where I have seen complaints are with shifters that don't use the u bracket. It's mainly noises and vibrations I hear complaints about. I have come to the conclusion that any of the shifters that don't have a rear bracket with slideability (new word), will down the road start making noise and, possibly make the mounting bolt/nuts back out, and in some instances snap the two studs for the rear mounting of the shifter. I have seen it happen. All this due to the fact that the shifters cant really move from where they are mounted and simple bushing upgrades aren't gonna do the trick. I have used 4 shifters in my car. Stock, Hurst, B&M, and now the updated MGW design. The noisiest where the hurst and the B&M. The Hurst is really archaic with that knuckle design (we have all read a lot of threads of how noisy they are) and I think they are mainly designed for a nostalgic feel and look, the B&M because it's a one piece deal, has a triangular mounting plate that the actual knuckle assembly mounts to and has no give when the drivetrain moves. The stock shifter isn't that bad for being stock, but come one, it's stock. Now this new MGW design? Best engineered piece I have seen yet. Not taking anything away from the Tri-Ax, Pro 5.0, or first MGW design. Those are all really great shifters. Main reason I see MGW popped out a new design? They probably got a lot of calls on noise and seein it is they make the best shifter out there (in mine and a lot of other peoples opinions), they went and did some more R&R and lowered the price!!! :thumb2: That's basically my experience with these shifters. Hope it helps you guys out...
