Question: What is Water Transfer Printing?
Answer: Water transfer printing is a way to do printing on a non-flat surface.This resolves the issue which faces offset printing that can't print on 3-dimensional objects. The hydrographic printing process can be applied to the surface of materials like metals, most types of plastics, and MDF wood, or any material that is not affected by water. The applications are endless!
The hydrographic printing process is comprised of the following 7 steps:
1- Film Selection
Our collection of standard hydrographic printing films offers a large selection of patterns to choose from. Or we can make a custom film from your sample pattern or photo.
2- Base Coating
An appropriate color will be selected for the base coat, of the objects to be printed. The hydrographic film pattern's desired effect can be achieved by simply altering the base coat.
3- Preparing the Product for Film Transfer
The hydro printing film is applied to the surface of the water transfer printing unit. The carrier substance (which is the water-soluble film that the pattern is printed on) dissolves while the pattern itself remains floating on the water.
4- Activation
The floating pattern is sprayed with a unique activating liquid which further dissolves the hydro imaging carrier substance, while leaving its appearance unaffected.
5- Transfer
The product is lowered into the water through the film pattern. The water pressure causes the printed pattern to evenly coat the entire object across all areas. Your selected hydro graphics pattern now completely covers your product!
6- Washing, Drying, and Inspection
Any hydrographic film residue is pressure washed away, and the product is dried. A quality control inspection is then performed.
7- Clear Coating
A clear coat is applied to protect the printed surface. We offer a full range of clear coats from matte to high gloss. Our hydrographic experts fully understand how clear coats can be adversely affected by such elements as UV rays, heat, chemicals, and the environment in general. We will apply the correct clear coat to ensure the longevity of the hydrographic design, on your 2- and 3-dimensionally printed product!
