Greater Ozark mustang club put on their 22nd annual all ford show this past Saturday at ford dealership here in Springfield... If you had more than 3 visual modifications from stock you were put in a modified class. So I was in 2005- present mustang... They also had a separate class for 2005 and up modified signiture class which included rousch, Shelby and saleen. Now here's my question. If someone builds a clone to one of these signature cars, all the way down to the badgeing, shouldn't they have to compete in thAt class??? Two procharged clones were in my class... One was a roush and the other a gt500... Well guess who got 1st and 2nd. Am I wrong to think they should be in the signature class? I put alot of time and effort into my car just as many do and to not even place sucked. I know for a fact I would have received 2nd place if not for the clones. Sore loser? Maybe... Atleast when I started my car it drew a bigger crowd than any other car there...I had one ol boy say " damn your sounds like it shoulda been made 40 years ago."

Here's a pic of my 07alloy at the show.... It rained about 3 hours after the show, I didn't get to enjoy the show shine very long...

Dark Horse, that's a good question. The answer is not easy because it all depends on the club running the show. While stationed in Washington State, I participated in many, many car shows in Washington and Oregon. No two clubs are alike. I have been in shows were clones had their own categories and shows were clones were in the modified category. I have been in shows where modified = 3 -5 visual mods or more, then when I go voting I see stangs with more than 5 visual mods in the "stock" category. About the best, straightforward shows I have been are those that are judged using the Mustang Club of America (MCA) rules. When they use the MCA rules, there's little room for interpretation.

Shit like this goes on all the time at car shows. Just go there to enjoy the cars and talk to other owners, screw the trophies.

When I lived in MA, I went to a show that had like 3 classes for 05+. Stock, slightly modified and heavily built. Me, having a built motor and everythign else went for that class. Their was 4 of us. One was a stock gt with a saleen blower, another was a riced our chromed out stock gt and the last one had a saleen body kit with a vortech. (also, each of them were part of the club hosting it) All 3 of them one. I didnt care about that. I liked having the only built the right way s197 there. Made me stick out. But what made me mad is that people running the show won. Made it known too that shit like that is horrible. needless to say, I never went to their shows again. lol

Just how it is. Try going to corvette shows, we had a mustang vs corvette. I had my 01 cobra at the time. I swear, you could have a rolling chassie with no motor but long as its clean, you will win.

Stuff like this made me not enjoy shows and gladly left that scene. lol

Car shows are mostly rigged IMO. I used to go to tons of shows with my parents, and almost all of the shows that had judges felt rigged. The best shows we went to, were the ones where the sepcators turned in votes on who should win.

No, there should be an "Extreme Modified" class for shit like that. 3 to 5 minor, simple mods" = Modified.

More than 5 or two or more major mods = Extreme Modified.

Not here, that sucks too. You get "ballot stuffing" by your buddies. There is NO "fair" way to judge a show. Theres always politics and biases for and against cars, mods and their owners. "Participant Judging" seems to be the most "fair".

I not so sure about that. I was at one show in Ma that had spectator voting and most do not have a clue at what they are looking at. It showed by who got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

To them it is the “cool” factor. To me it is the details that stand out; plus the ones that do lots of the mods themselves and make their car just a bit different then the rest.

clones are clones and will never be the real thing. they were stock, then modified to the point of clone. why would they be in a specialty class if the only thing special is the owner? they are also very unoriginal if you ask me. hence why mine is an extreme hybrid. saleen front bumper, roush grill, cobra r hood, roush wing, fr500 wheels, etc... and believe me, it will be a cold day in hell before i care about what some asshole in a hat has to say about how "clean" my car is. its a daily driver. grow some balls and take your "original 98 corvette" out in the rain.

That would put you in the "mutt" class? Heh.

^^absolutely. i put together many different parts to give my car its look, which im VERY happy with. every year we go to a car show in orchard beach in the bronx. there are 150 trophies given out to over 500 cars. it is rigged to the point that its disgusting. out of the 150, about 90-95 were camaros, novas, chevelles, etc... then about 30 corvettes, 10-15 pontiacs, a good few buicks and 3 mustangs. my club rolled in with 25 cars. many of which are rare. out of the 25 there was an original KR, a new KR, an original GT500, an original GT350, two super snakes, a 1 of 12 roush 427r, a 1 of 151 roush P51A, a 1 of 100 roush roadster, a 1 of 72 competition orange terminator, etc... and not one of them got a trophy. one of the guys in my club is so meticulous about cleaning his car, if you look down at the hood, you could see the devil himself scratching his ass on the toilet because the shine is that deep. we go because its the last show of the year and we all like to get together with the cars one last time.
but its kind of absurd that we get zero recognition

This. I've given up on shows. Back when I had my old Fox, I entered a show and it was looking good for me. I had the cleanest car, hands down. However, 'judging' was decided by buying a ticket, and placing it in a can representing each car. Some jackass with a hoopty Fox and a bad case of poor taste and no class beat me by about 20 votes. Turns out, he later admitted he bought $50 worth of tickets so he could get the trophy. I was sore for a while, but the money went to charity. Now, I just enter and enjoy all the other cars and fellow stangers' company.

I'm with these guys. I built my car to drive and enjoy myself. I go to the shows because usually the parking spots are hard to beat. And I enjoy talking to the other owners.

Car show judging, very suspect. Where as 1320 racing, no grey area there. Go race and never get hosed by a judge again!

Clones are fakes period.

OP sounds like my wife. We do 3-4 shows a summer. I do it because it is fun and relaxing. She does it because she likes to get the trophies. Unless you have a seriously built car, you should expect this to happen at least every 2-3 shows you are in where you get beat by a car that just has a bunch of chrome shit on it. I've also seen it where we are either penalized for having a newer car and there is obvious bias against it, and also where we have beat older cars we shouldn't have just because our car is easier to get spotless clean because it's newer.

Don't get worked up over it. If you want to sway things in your favor, show up not too late but not too early. I've noticed my car places better the more people that get to hear it arrive. I'm sure yours would be the same. Cams = big attention, but once you are parked and shut off they won't win you any trophies if nobody is there because you get there early.

I'm new to the show scene don't get me wrong. The last car I showed was in high school and was a 79' MGB with a built 94 dohc 5.0 cobra motor that put down 375 to the ground, which was my daily driver. So I know all about a heavily modified class.... My whole point was that if you build a " clone" car that looks identical to a roush or gt500 than damnit you should be competing with them. I'm a " mutt" car too.. Gt500 rear end, roush front end in the paint shop now, but there is not one snake on my car nor an "r" badge..Im perfectly fine with just hanging out with the owners of the cars and the trophy don't really mean anything to me... I'm not that guy that displays his trophys at every show... It's my daily driver and knowing that i turned every bolt on every modification makes me proud...I guess I was just curious to see how often this kind of thing happened even though this was an all ford show and hosted by a mustang club... Hell I guess having the only grey car there screwed me, lol! And yes cams equaled massive amounts of attention! It was better than any trophy!

Last time I took my 68 to a show, I got there and popped the hood and proceeded to go look at the other cars as I could give a shot about trophies so no final cleaning required... Apparently the fella I parked next to thought it was a contender anyway and when the judges were getting close actually hunted me down to make sure I could open the trunk and doors so it could be judged... I really thought his head was gonna blow up when I said I didn't care what the judges thought of my car lol.

I have similar problems with car shows.

I will spend 20 hours cleaning my car, getting it ready, etc. and I've never won a trophy. People tend to go with Clones or cars that are blinged out.

I personally frown upon clones and can't stand cars that are not the real thing but are modified to "lool" like one.

Although I don't really care too much about trophies, I know my car is one of the cleanest in my area, and I am satisfied with the work I put into it. That is good enough for me.

I can agree there. Just seems like when I was younger all the participant/spectaor shows were the most fair way of judging.

By me the last few shows I went to that were sponsored by clubs or dealers people in the know always seemed to be the people that won.

If you dont care about the trophies, you can come spend about 3 hours on my car cleaning it hahahahaha
