On april 16 I'll be participating in an scca drivers school and then and event the following day at miller park. Should be a fun experience for me.

Was hoping for a suggestion on a helmet that won't cut down my vision,
any other pointers you may have are also welcome, insults not so much ;)

Idk if this is true or not but from what I've heard DOT approved helmets shouldn't be looked at too much as (again from what I've heard) their testing of their helmets is not very strict and a lot of helmets that claim to be DOT approved do not actually pass. Look for Snell 2005/2010. As for open face/full face I like full face cuz when it comes down to it, they just look way cooler. That and you won't get hit in the eyeball by a rock if u have the visor down.

The best way to find what is right for you is to go to a place that sells different brands and styles and try them to see what is right for you.

I wanted a full face helmet and the first one I tired on, the least expensive one, felt too restricted for vision and so I ended up getting a higher priced model that was more open. The model I ended up with was a Bell BR-1.

It was more money than I originally planned to spend but I figured my head was worth it.

You could always check with the club you're going out with and see if they do loaner helmets for free. Every auto-x I've done so far has been with loaner helmets. I haven't gotten a chance to get out to the track with my new helmet but its visibility was great for k1 speed lol. I have the Simpson Super Bandit helmet which is on sale right now at saferacer.com I think they're discontinuing it or something?
