Your first problem is you listened to Steve from bbr. Secondly, to get it stripped and powder coated, it shouldn't cost more than $50. And I would definitely contact rtr and put them on blast if they don't do something about it

No shit! bbr If you had purchased from AM you would have a better chance of getting it replaced. Maybe just powder coat it.

Jinx, trufiber makes a carbon fiber one, and its cheap.

You can have it repainted or dipped and cleared. Thats what im going to do.

^ not the same shape though. RTR curves in with the shape of the trunk lid and tail lights. That doesnt flow with the shape of the car.

Only reason I dealt with BBR was that they were the only one taking orders on it. And Steve answered questions at least 24 hours and most of the time within minutes of me emailing. Granted it ended up being bullshit. Live and learn.

I wish raxiom or someone would make a plastic one like the stocker minus the bump and faux cap.

Its been a while since I've had one in my hands but Im pretty sure the original piece made by CDC for RTR was plastic. Once Turn5/AM/Raxiom/MMD/Bama took over RTR it became metal.

Every one that I heard of is metal. That's been the biggest complaint. To me it would be cheaper to make a part from plastic. Hell I've wondered if just heating up a thicker piece of urethane while rubber clamped to the decklid in place then router the edges to get that OEM look then get it painted would work

Ok, maybe I should stop while I'm ahead.... but after staring at this panel for longer than I should, it seems like it wouldn't be difficult at all to make a fiberglass replica of this damn thing using the RTR as a template.

-Cover RTR Panel in Release agent
-Fiberglass mat for the first two layers
-Separate
-Another layer or two on the backside
-Add filler and sand
-Get a Body shop to paint (because I can't paint to save my life)

Itd be cool to make one out of dry carbon. But I can only imagine how expensive it would be to attempt it.

I think simple fiberglass with the right resin would be cheaper to get the same look as the RTR.
If I were to attempt this, what resin and fillers would best prevent spider webbing and cracking after a few years painted?

edit: Just curious I wonder how expensive it would be to fill in the holes in the decklid that the panel mounts to or weld the RTR panel in place instead?

That's what I want...Swed, what is the ballpark to expect for a shave and paint job like that? Is it smooth and no waved? Do you know how they did it? (I figured they either patch the holes or cover the whole area with new sheet metal

His dad owns a body shop so it was free labor. He welded a piece of sheet metal and sanded it smooth, if I remember correctly. He's a member here but not very active, if ever anymore. His instagram is @coyotecoupe if you're on there.

Expensive. I spent $400 getting the 4 spoiler holes on my trunk filled, not including paint.
