www.dipyourcar.com sells a complete kit. The guy has some pretty good instructional videos on YouTube on how to prep and tape off the car, and the right way to spray it. He did a video where he did his Audi S4. He also did a custom job on a Nissan GTR.

As for the sprayer, not sure on that. I did see one video where I swear a guy was using a Wagner power painter. I cannot find that video though.

I have an extra lower grille I custom made and plasti-dipped. I also plan to do the upper to match custom. I would not do any more than this though but that's just me. I've seen a plasti-dipped car turn out VERY badly in the end. But that was more so the idiot tried power washing the dip off and took paint off in the process. Would you be interested in colored dip or black? There's a guy locally that does whole cars, I could try and get some info out of him for you if you want.

it cracks me up when guys hate on PD, but then will spend 3K to wrap a car for the EXACT same look. PD done properly, looks better than a wrap and for a fraction of the cost.

if i had a daily beater id PD it in a second. i love my DIB to much to even think about covering it up. i do plan on doing my hood vents and my wifes TSW wheels.

I'm sort of in the same boat. When I inquire about spraying my Saleen matte black (paint) I've been told by many reputable shops to wrap the car instead. When looking into wrap, I've been quoted $3-4k from a variety of places.

If there are professional shops spraying this stuff now, what's the harm in getting it done if done correctly? Hell, I could probably do it and tell people it's a vinyl wrap and nobody would know any difference.

I get that there are a lot of reasons to say 'ghetto' and 'ricer', but it's just like anything else in my opinion. You can make a shit job out of anything, even paint.

Plastidip is probably one of the coolest things ive ever played with. Sprayed my stock wheels before I bought some AMR's and held up insanely well.

spent many nights bored in my garage with friends spraying random stuff and peeling it off...haha.

If done right I dont see how plastidippin the entire car would look bad, I think ive seen someone spray their whole car with clear and it just matted out their stock paint --looked really good too

the plastidipping i did on my old wheels, spoiler and ground effects was cool for abit and came off no problem. its a different story when i thought a may want my relay cover under the hood yellow. i shot it with plastidip then painted it. after looking at it for a day i didnt like it so i tried peeling it off...took forever, had to scratch it off in little flakes. lesson learned

Great reasoning....thanks for sharing.

I'm a huge plastidip fan on small parts, accents, etc. Spraying an entire car is stupid IMO. If you're going to go for the matte black look, cool, but do it properly.

It's a nightmare to keep clean, it tears easy, and in my opinion it looks cheap.

That's my reasoning :thumb2:

It took a whole 5 gallon bucket but I managed to wedge my penis in there. Will post pics when it dries.

I could see this being a valid point with someone that takes a few cans of the stuff in an attempt to paint a vehicle.

However, with the correct prep and process (using a HVLP sprayer and 5-6 coats) I don't see the difference between this stuff and an expensive vinyl wrap? I've seen video of professional jobs being sprayed point blank with a pressure washer and seen road grime washed off with soap and water.

I'd love to hear more about your experiences with whole car dips though as I'm honestly trying to make an educated decision. So far, $300 for plasti dip is looking a lot better than a $3k vinyl wrap.

I have no personal experience with an entire car, but a helluva of experience plastidipping interior pieces, badges, small areas, wheels, etc. From what I've seen with that, I wouldn't trust it enough to plasti dip the entire car. Then again, maybe these guys that are making videos know something I don't... Who knows
