Just an FYI, I bought a set of used Bassanti axle backs for my sons car here several weeks back, they had the sand inside sound as well. I put them on the car and they sound great. Just my experience with used mufflers. Take it for what you want.

Probably welding slag.

No, its like the shit you see on the back of your car after driving in the rain times 100. They condensate every day, then add dirt, you have the sound we are taking about.

Gotcha.

Coast High Performance is a bad seller in my book. Ordered rotating assembly 3 months ago and excuse after excuse and lies about when crankshafts will show up.

I feel bad I asked my builder to order from them, now he is fighting them about getting refunded and had to file a CC dispute.

The company was sold to another company down South and the new owner is clueless about modular.

Mad I ever recommended other guys buy from this company.

are you a member on YB? IDK if it will help, but Mark O'Neal is a member there and I think was the owner at Coast... maybe he could help?

He is who Danny is talking to. Thought about posting on YB, but I'm a nobody on there and can guess how that thread would roll. Mark doesn't own Coast anymore and he has said he hasn't made a piston for quite some time. I believe Probe is for sale but no buyer. Mark is moving close to the new buyer of CHP to help for a year or 2 from what it sounds like.

Just hope Danny's CC takes care of him.

figured CC chargebacks were the nuclear option to force companies to either do right, or money returns to payer

CHP doesn't exist anymore in CA, from when Danny bought. So...fucking can of worms...CC may still make Danny whole, but who knows when.

Since I may have to eat it, it complicates my build budget a fucking lot. And my build budget is plenty fucking complicated enough without this shit.

Danny asked me if I would give them until next Tuesday to ship, really nothing to lose, so I agreed. This will be the 5th or 6th time they promised a day to ship. Almost afraid of what would show up if it did ship.

I can say if its for a storker with a kellogg 3.750" stroke crankshaft then what they are telling you is probably right because those have been out of production for quite a few years now and when you can find one, they are fucking ridiculous. i paid 1100 for mine when they were 800 a month before thru lunati who said they bought the tooling and some of kellogg's overstock that mmr didnt get but never produced anymore and almost within a week the price shot up to 1500

It's too bad you are going through this. A friend of mine who used to be in professional racing steered me away from them during my first build. Internet research turned up some disturbing stories.

The upside is that now you are free to go with other suppliers. Right off the bat I can say I've had very good experiences with a place called CNC Motorsports out of Brookings, SD. They were able to get me parts that a big name modular specialty shop said were not available. They have a hotline to the major manufacturers and will make the specialty order while you are on the phone. That way you know exactly where you stand with the order.

Twice I've custom ordered pistons via CNC and had the orders processed that day with delivery about three weeks later. One order was from Diamond and the other was Mahle. They were able to get Mahle to custom make pistons from slugs to replicate a design that had been discontinued. That's something nobody else was able to do.

We'll know more by the end of Tue. Might pick up one of those billet JDM cranks if this does fall through. Or, I might pack all the boxes in a corner of my shed and forget about it for a while.
