I think black wheels are good for showing off brakes. Otherwise, I wouldn't want them, and right now they are getting to the point of just being overdone (look up aftmarket wheels for a current F-150, 80% of them are black) especially since the OE's have gotten in on it.

Chrome wheels CAN look good.

I personally have been leaning toward machined and/or painted wheels the last few years.

And that's why I like these wheels I got for my car ('15-17 GT "premium" wheels). They are all painted (powdercoated?). Ford calls it dark stainless, I think it's an awesome color, not quite anthracite, but not plain silver either. Almost like a smoked silver.

I have ran all different size and color wheels over the years starting back in the mid 1960's with my 1st Blue Vette.

What I have found is some cars/trucks look A-OK with Chrome-wheels.

Some cars mainly look okay with Black wheels with No-Chrome on them.

Also Black wheels with Chrome really look nice with certain cars like Mustangs.

Personally I've never been much into the Green, Yellow, Orange etc. wheels on Mustangs.

That I guess depends on where one lives and one's personal taste.

Lastly, once again just my opinion, Black wheels can be a real Bitch to keep clean.
Especially if your brakes produce an over abundance of the (Dreaded-Brake-Dust).

I have Black now and have been running them for a few years with Polished Rims.
I got rid of the ongoing (Brake-Dust) by changing Brake-Pads Front & Rear.
So the on going nightmare of keeping them clean disappeared mostly but they still take a fair amount of cleaning to have them look really Show-Quality.

I agree. I wonder what the next craze will be. I agree with the previous poster that it seems like everyone is always trying something different weather it looks good or not. It's like fashion in a way. u go thru all these trends then they change and keep changing just to be different. And when they run out of ideas they will bring it back in style.

The thing that gets me, is the people that clean their cars and wheels but don't dress the tires. For god sakes people! Do something with the dirty, dull, brown freaking tires!! If you don't like shiny tires, fine. They make dressing that isn't shiny, just make them look clean.

if this is pointed at me. i never even drove my car last summer. i was driving my 72 roadrunner that has a 572ci hemi in it.
i pulled the car out of storage to take a pic of the hood vent for someone. that's why the tires are dirty.

Below is a picture of it on the Show-Room Floor at BRENSPEED before they delivered it back to me.

You can see what the M/T Wheels look like pretty clear.

Hi Roy,

If you don't mind I would love to see pictures of that Hemi Roadrunner.

If you don't want to post them here in the open you can PM or E-Mail them to me.

When I got back from Vietnam in 1966 my older brother and I in Frankfort, KY. went by the local Chrysler Dealer and guess what was sitting right out front ???

That's right a Hemi Roadrunner in a light blue color as I recall.

Man we raised the hood on it and all you saw was that 426 Cu In Engine and those Huge Wrinkled Finished Black valve covers.

As you can see I have never forgotten that day with my older brother and seeing and honestly Lusting over it.

I just simply did not have the income to buy it and also to pay for the insurance on it.

As the years passed a few of my buddies did own used Hemi Cars and they were the Stuff !!!

That same day while we were out looking at New Cars we drove to Lexington, KY. and went by the Ford Dealer and what did we see out front ???

A doggone 429 Cu In Mustang !!!

What a fun day the two of us had and now this is Feb. 2017 and I still remember that day as if it just took place.

Congratulations on having still the Hemi Roadrunner buddy .........

Say where are you located in what State ???

Not at all directed at you or any one person. It's just something that has always stood out to me, anytime I look at cars in general.

My 13 had black sheels but they had a polished lip on them. THe same wheels were on this car, but I was getting tired of that dated look. I ended up getting talked into considering a charcoal gray color to match the stripes. Never had the interest in the all darker wheels, but did like the look of this charcoal or gunmetal color with a Satin clear coat finish on these slightly used Vossens I ended up purchasing for a nice deal. Color matches the charcoal gray stripes. In normal light they are clearly charcoal gray as the stripes are. And yes the front is still awaiting the struts and drop springs............Darn winter weather.

I can't stand completely black wheels. They remind of the ones on my '05 Hyundai with no wheel covers. Gotta have some shine in there.

i am in wisconsin a few miles SW of milwaukee.
i took the aftermarket wheels in this pic off and put the stock rally ones with RWL BF Goodrich T/A tires back on and recently sold it.
the hood, code N96 air grabber, hood pins, J45, and stripes, V21 V25, were factory equipment on the car.

i had the seat covers custom made like original factory option orange insert seats that you could order from the factory in 71.
the 2 tone blue/ blackdoor trim panels were never available from the factory. i just installed factory blue and black panels to make the color combo.

the car originally came with a 400 4bbl.
engine shot with air cleaner. on. when this pic was taken i had a 624 ci, i think it was a 4.59" bore by a 4.75" stroke, hemi in it. i over revved it and cracked a cylinder wall so i put a 572 in it. 4.5" bore by 4.5" stroke. it had 2.5" intake valves with 1.98" exhaust valves. car had 8.5-1 compression and made 500rwhp on pump 87 octane gas.

I agree, the blacked out look is not my cup of tea. But there is a very select few that I think look good. They look like they have black steel reams on the car or truck.

That's why they make vanilla and chocolate.

It all depends on the particular car. Some look good with black, some chrome, and some polished. I personally think that the 05-09 body style looks good with chrome wheels in certain colors, but I have yet to see a 2013-14 car that looked good with chrome wheels. 2010-12 cars can go either way.
