Mid 10's would be pretty amazing out of an n/a 3 valve. Good luck and can't wait to see it dialed in.

Wow, you're doing VERY good considering that you're not done fine tuning your car. Oh and I can't believe you pulled that 60 foot on DR's. Do you plan on changing to slicks in the future? :)
if Performance auto gets their trans brake ready i may have to. once it's on the market i'll be at his door at 8am...i'm 30minutes away :)
at that point i should be able to drop to the low 1.40's or high 1.30's. the DR's hooked fine yesterday but i think the shock might be more than they can handle. who knows guys are out there running 6.90's on the MT DR's so they might just hook fine once the chassis is dialed in.
if i could just lighten the car up 400lbs. like some of the other guys here. heck i'm also 220lbs. so that doesn't help matters :) i just don't want to strip the ac and ps and all the stuff that makes it a "real" street car.

yeah i priced it out and tried to justify it but for an extra tenth (100lbs.) it just didn't make sense. the only benefit is you can replace the sleeves with the 3.7 bore and get 5.8L wiht the stock stroke. but thats another $1100 and if it's the GT block you have to do a shit ton of machine work to make it a wet sump block and it requires a custom oil pan. ford now sells one already done for wet sump but i haven't seen a price. better off paying $4500 for the sean hyland block already done with the big bore and it uses a stock oil pan. be nice to do a big bore stroker 5.4 and have a whopping 380cid :) but it would cost about 10-12k for just the shortblock.

Oh ok, having slicks on your car would be sick!! There's plenty of stuff to do to lighten up your car, just ask Matt D. :p

You know, I'd LOVE to have a 5.8 big bore stroker in our car, but too bad it's so dang expensive. Where's the 5.4 SHM big bore block that you're talking about? I can't seem to find it on their website.

they are a bit more than i thought and after reading it i found they have the wide oil pan rails as well so again custom pan required. $5k for a bare block ouch !!!

holy crap 5K !
yeah i wanted to build an aluminum block 5.4 with 3.75 bore and 4.5 stroke crank which would have been around 380cid i think. i priced it out just for the shortblock $10-12k.....i think my stock heavy iron block 5.4 runs just fine. 124mph @ 3680# means it's making 550-560hp at the crank....with full exhaust only 2.5" at that. just think when i uncap the exhaust...

I sure can't wait to see what your car does with no exhaust. :thud: But just imagine 380cid in a 3v modular...... That probably would have the potential to run 9's.

If our cars weighed what the fox body and sn95 cars do i would be in the 9's already :) just think what dropping nearly 1000lbs. would do.
imagine a 2600# s197
my car may go on a massive diet this winter. gotta put the roll bar in anyway...may as well make a chassis and back half it while i'm at it. i's still use the stock suspension points and use small tires so it looks stock.once the carpet is back in it would be hard to tell anything was done. i think just back halfing the car would drop it to somewhere around 2700-2800lbs. (going by the roush car of don bowles : pushrod motor back halfed 2750lbs.)

I agree, but I think low 10's are possible with a few tweaks and considerable weight reduction. You definitely should put it on a diet as it would be so awesome to see how much it would help.

Light weight is key... im dropping some more weight this winter... my car is 3095 right now so I am aiming for the 2990 ish weight :p without back halfing the thing. I was thinking about gun drilled 31 spline axles but they would be to weak I think

yeah i've always been extremely conscience of weight. the car now has m/t dr's which are 16lbs. heavier each than the bias ply's with no tubes plus my front tires are no radials which are 7 lbs. heavier than the bias frontrunners. i've done nothing but add weight to the damn thing lately.
i'd rather back half it than give up my p/s and a/c and electric windows etc. i still want it to be a street car. if i was building a race car i's sell this one and buy a body in white then have it acid dipped and start from scratch with no b/s in the car to begin with.
2990 is featherlight for one of these. when i ran 11's with the stock engine it weighed 3550 on the line w/me and 3320 w/o me and i thought that was good.
i'm dropping the exhaust tonight which should lose about 60-70lbs. and hopefully net me a few hp as well. heck at this power level it's got to be killing me some. who knows i may just run some 10.60's or 10.70's in rockingham if the weather is good.
do you think this is good enough to finally get my car in the magazine????

Your car is for sure magazine material! I can see the cover now

" who needs a 408? when you can run 10's with smaller cubes"

(picture of your car doing a burnout)

too bad the rockingham event was a rainout. 14hours of driving for nothing :yuck:
okay exhaust is off and using a 10" collector. race seats in also. should have lost 80-100lbs. and hopefully gained a few hp. don't think the exhaust is a major restriction but with 500+hp(crank) i don't imagine it helps.
weather is looking good so far this weekend. it's cool at least. hopefully my wife will let me go for a T&T on sat. for a couple hours....she's a little ticked about the $300 in gas i spent to watch it rain :dunce:
i think 10.65-10.70 is possible. with some tweaking JJ and i both feel this car can go 10.50's and with a transbrake maybe a tenth or so quicker wouldn't it be cool to run low 10's with an NA 3V (a 10.39 would count:thumb2:)
