Are the internals on the GT500 motor forged?

I was under the impression that one reason that its so easy to get 600 rwhp from this motor was that it had forged conrods, piston and crank, but I overheard some at Strictly's shop saying they were not.

Anyone have the facts on this? Also, what compression ratio does this motor run?

And you doubted them? Strictly knows more about GT500's than just about anybody. The rods & pistons are NOT forged. Compression ratio is 8.8:1.

I got shit from a lot of people on here telling me they were forged after I said that they weren't.

According to the Ford Racing parts catalog - M-6909-C54SC4 crate motor is forged crank and rods, it seems to be listed as the only 5.4L with SVT Heads for 2007-2009.

I know SD knows his stuff, however, I respectfully disagree and state that they are in fact forged.

Who's strictly? Never heard of him.

Richard is the owner of Strictly Performance in Houston, who tunes primarily Mustangs and a fair share of them are GT500s.

he installed my NOS system (and now returned thr car to almost stock as i prepare to trade mine in for an '10 GT500).

The block, yes, but what about the internals?

We know that for a 3V 4.6 stock rotating assembly, the safe limit is around the 450 RWHP level, with some engines able to go far beyond that, and some blowing up way before that (normal distribution).

I guess the next question is:

"what is the safe max rwhp is for the stock GT500 rotating assembly?"

Fuck it. Y'all have all the answers it seems. And the crate engine has forged guts for a reason. It is NOT a factory replacement engine. But what do I know right?

You know a lot, I'm willing to admit I'm wrong, however how does one explain these motors running 20+ psi and making 700+ to the tire and holding up unless they are forged.

Not sure about pistons and crank but I do know they use a stronger I beam rod. Compression is actually 8.4:1

idk, on a 07 GT500 users manual, it states everything is forged. I can scan it if need be.

The rods are cracked powder stuff which are actually the weakest link in the entire engine assembly. Ask anyone who's blown a GT500 motor what went and I bet they say the rods. The stock rods just below the wrist pin are about the size of a sugar cube. Our 08' snapped one and bent a few others before it put a nice sky light in the side of the block.

Typically that happens with too much boost and revving the motor too high in the rpm range. We feel very comfortable telling customers that they can support 700-725rwhp without any issues so long as they run good fuel and keep the rpm's under 6500. After the 725rwhp range or if you intend on revving it higher it's all up in the air. Yes we've seen people make 800+rwhp without failure however at that point it's like rolling dice.

I'd say if you want to make anything over 725rwhp and drive the car hard your best bet is a new set of rods at minimum. Pistons are a great idea to do at the same time as well.
