Best of luck...

When it came down to it... I was going to have a motor built for my car, or get new 5.0.

I was afraid of all the b/s that comes with 1st gen's.

But, that's a WHOLE other story....

That sucks, I had the same issue with a brand new Volvo V8 and I elected to just put up with the noise since the engine ran strong otherwise. I hope that they can remedy the issue and fix the problem for you.

That's a pretty bad tick if you ask me, I'd be pissed. Sounds like it's up top, lazy lash adjuster, so hopefully won't be to involved to fix. The scary part is I read a post about a guy having bad crank bearings (hear say, no proof posted), I hope it doesn't turn out to be related as in oil pressure issue. I'm starting to wonder how long this aluminum block's going to be around.

I never understood why Ford uses 5W20 oil in the new 5.0 engine. I use 5W30 in my 4.6 and 10W40 when I'm road racing - works great. I would try Valvoline SynPower Motor Oil 5W-40 and see if it gets ride of the valvetrain noise before having Ford tear the motor down.

I would have to respectfully disagree to the advice to increase oil viscosity. These engines are designed and built with very tight tolerances. It may not be a wise idea to try and use it to eliminate a problem that clearly shouldn't exist in the first place.

Heavier weight for road racing? Maybe. For street use or drag racing stock bottom ends? Probably never.

S197 GT. I would go to the dealer and take a ton of pictures of your car. I had my Truck in the dealer to have the windshield replaced under warranty due to a leak and the tech scratched the shit out of the fenders with his belt buckle and then told me that the scratches were there when the truck came in. Funny how they were only 5-6 inches long and went up and down. CYA

This is very good advice. ANY time I've had to drop my car at the dealer, I've taken pictures AND had them fill out an inspection sheet of my own making WITH ME.

That being said, I would have done the same as you S197. That noise is way too loud for a brand new engine. It *could* be an injector ticking, but I would be willing to bet one of the Ford tech's used a stethoscope to check them. Ford doesn't just fly engineer's out to dealerships unless they're VERY sure something internal is bad or about to go bad.

Makes you wonder. The 3v cars had some pretty noisy injectors and the aftermarket stuff is even worse.

Today the mechanic spent most of the day with Hotline and didn't tear into anything. The specialist isn't here yet, so not much of anything was accomplished. The service advisor told me that they want to avoid tearing into it if they don't need to. I can dig it.

they atleast gonna give you a loaner?

Absolutely! Im rocking a piece of shit GMC Canyon right now. I'll swap it out after taking advantage of a bed and hauling a few things to the dump.

Exactly what I was thinking, I don't really have much to lose? Or do I?

Sounds like it's up top, lazy lash adjuster...I'm starting to wonder how long this aluminum block's going to be around.

That's the master mechanics first thought as well, hopefully we'll know something soon. I don't have any doubt that the aluminum block is here to stay.

Great advice, I will go first thing in the AM.

Good idea about the inspection sheet too. I'll make one of those while I'm at it.

Sorry, not much help but all I can say is my brothers 5.0 does NOT have that noise, so something must be off.

+1000000 on taking pictures and doing a walk around with the person in charge. You really don't want to add the potential to get your brand new car back with scratches, dents, or dings that you didn't get to do yourself since you're paying the note. It's not gonna be "IF" it happens, it's gonna be "WHEN" it happens.

Well today, they didn't tearinto the motor, and they had 5 new 5.0's show up on the lot. They compared mine to the other 5 and determined it's a characteristic of the motor, since 2 of the 5 new ones also do it.

I said bullshit. How is it a normal characteristic, if 3 out of the 10 they've looked at make the noise.

I told them its bullshit, and that they either fix it or replace it. He told me he's on my side, and wants it done right.

We'll have to wait and see what comes of it tomorrow.

Tiger, yeah I saw that post, and mentioned it. My dealer doesn't have a very Mustang savvy field rep, so they said that something may be coming down the pipeline that they are unaware of, but another dealer may know more if they have a field rep that focuses on mustangs. He is being very honest with me and let me know that their rep is heavily focused on F250s and what would be considered work vehicles.

I'll update again tomorrow.
