I did change your quote, that was the point.

I can't tell you how fast as I haven't taken it to the track yet and haven't been able 2 for the past 3 months do to me living in wisconsin and us having snow.

When the weather gets nicer I still will not take it to the track until I have at least 5000 miles on the vehicle as I believe in a break in period

People who wait 5000 miles are gay.

Its subjective. again, auto's take no skill, but with a skilled driver you can out shift a 2011 auto 5.0. Autos are for 6 second cars and retired old farts. Also, whats the fun in just mashing the throttle? Who the hell dosnt want to actually drive their car?

Thats not the argument, the argument was the factory auto. the C4 is a 3 speed auto, not 6 speed. Just becuase one shop has done it in an auto, dosnt mean it cant be done with the manual. Race seaon is right around the corner. Like i said, autos are for all out drag racing cars running 6 seconds or 80 year olds. anything in between are those too lazy to shift, or those not skilled enough to do so fast enough. You know, there use to be a time where being a "driver" and lining em up to see what youve got ment something. now a days it not skill. Its too old people racing to the bathroom.

Would you mind sharing with the class how fast your 5.0 does the 1/4 on stock tires?

Bruce is right, I imagine that when it shakes out given equal traction. That the quickest ET cars will be 4.56 or 4.88 geared stalled 6 speed auto's. And even in the days of 4 speed autos with bad gear spacing typically built autos ET better and manuals trap higher. You guys ever think about people with no clutch leg or that have physical issues that prevent them from driving a manual? Does that automatically mean that they prefer men?

I haven't had a single issue with my MT-82 or stock clutch but if I had to do it over I would have gone with the auto.

For those who think their manuals are faster than the auto....

One of the quickest privately owned 5.0's. I filmed this run and his car has made a believer out of me. ;)

A geared A6 is faster at the drag strip. I prefer my manual and will pick around some about auto's but there is no denying that the new auto is quicker.

11.30's in not one of the quickest privately owned 11 gt's. Doesn't even fit in the top 50.

You can research that if you are so inclined. N/A...wgaf? You didn't even mention that in your previous statement.

You are correct I should have specified. My mistake.

I have researched. Only faster N/A auto's out there are dedicated shop cars.

Feel free to research yourself. If you find something different feel free to post it.

wow.. what happened in here? lol..

Honestly, if I had it to do again, I'd buy the automatic. I'm a damn good driver, and I cannot run quicker than the same car with the 6spd auto with the same mods.

Just so you know, the "break-in period" for your motor is done well under 1000 miles, and some even argue right off the showrrom floor when you pick up the vehicle and are test driving it, its all ready broken in. This is not 1960. Tolerances are tighter, the cylinders and ringlands, pistons and valtrain are much better than the motors of the past. Your motor is already broken in. Sorry to break the news to you. Now go and beat on your car, or dont. But driving your car like an 80 year old for the first 10k miles is also not good for the motor either. some argue that yo do more harm than good. Why do you think most serious tuners drive there cars directly to a dyno to break in there cars right on the rollers? Its not uncommon.
:hijacked:

I agree 100%.. I build engines for a living, and have done so for 10+ years. The quality (even in the span of 10 years), has gone up dramatically. Changes in piston ring and piston design has greatly reduced the break-in period. Honestly, the engine is broken in within the first 25 minutes of running. The rings seat, and the cams wear in properly.. I drop the oil at 100 miles, just to clear out any trash left from the build process, and it's good to go after that. There's nothing else to "break-in".. except for a fresh clutch.

Even still, I ran my car hard after about 150 miles, and when the tech pulled the clutch a few weeks ago, it still looked brand spankin' new. Not a single glaze/hot spot on the disc, pressure plate, or flywheel.

My buddy has the same exact car as me, with 4.10's, Steeda intake, and the same exact tune as me. His car is an auto. He went 11.93 @ 116mph on the STOCK TIRES with the damn traction control on! The best that I could muster, on drag radials, was 12.01 @ 115mph. And before you say that I must not know how to drive.. here's a video of me driving my car.. :)

I'm sure there are faster shifters out there than me, but, I actually lift and use my clutch. ;)

This is the 1 of the 2 times that I brought my car to the track.. I haven't been back because I need to take care of the wheel hop first.

Travis

Shifting looks good to me. I don't think I am shifting any faster and I also lift shift.

Sweet. Nice in car shot Travis. Love the way the tach goes orange when you get to redline. Never knew they did that.

lol.. for the first few days, I didn't know that it did it either.. I had the gauges set on red, and it doesn't light up if you have them red already. :)

Once I get my suspension/wheel hop sorted out, I'll go back.. I know that I can knock another tenth off.

*UPDATE*

Car is STILL not finished.. :( The dealership called, and told me that while they were pressing the gears off, they found some damage, and had to order a new gear. They had it overnighted, and it'll be there tomorrow.

I'm going ride by later to see what's going on.. I'll snap pics.

As I've said in previous threads, I've had issues with my MT82 trans. It's had a horrible whine since day one, which has progressively gotten worse. Shifting has always been a little notchy, but, not as bad as what others seem to be experiencing.

I have NOT had any clutch issues.. Upon pulling the trans, the tech noted that the pressure plate bolts where tight, and I checked everything out. The clutch shows almost zero wear. The pressure plate has no hot spots/glazing at all. The car is not driven hard at all. I've beat on it a few times, but, my wife mainly drives it to/from work.

The car has 5K miles on the clock, and I bought it with about 100 miles on it. It was a dealer transfer from Veterans Ford in New Orleans, LA. It has made noise from day one, and I think that there may have been some damage done before it arrived. This was obviously thier test drive vehicle, as it had some mileage on it when it arrived.

Anyway, here's a few pics..

Lots of shavings in the oil..
7.jpg

Broken throw out bearing. Was "clicking" and making a little noise..
9.jpg

Front of case, Input shaft/bearing for main shaft
10.jpg

Rear of case, output shaft and main shaft bearings.. steel shift forks

Here's the broken bits..

Magnet with TONS of shavings and bits of teeth..

I counted 8 broken teeth on the synchro gear.. I'm pretty sure that's the part, anyway.. That's a good bit of shavings for a trans with only 5K miles of use. Ford is asking the tech to figure out how much it would cost to rebuild it. The tech is mad because he wants them to send a new trans. I don't blame him.. They only pay 7 hours to fix it.

Travis

Looks like owner abuse to me :omfg:
