I always assumed it was because they didn't have a calibration for the auto trans or were worried about putting that much power though it. Could be wrong though.

Why is that? The Ti-VCT is always moving depending on RPM and load. Why would it matter where the cams are set at idle? I mean its probably not great for your cats, but that's different.

Understood. But does the overdrive button actually change what clutches or bands are engaged for 3rd and 4th? Or does it only restrict 5th? I have a tr3650 so i'm just curious.

Welcome! Overdrive IS fifth gear. Toggling the O/D off button just keeps it from shifting into 5th or downshifts to 4th if you are already in 5th

Yep run your factory front o2s in the first bung on each side. run the wideband in one rear o2 spot and plug the other bung. Should be in good shape

Agreed. You have to push in a pin and swing the lever over before those connectors will come out. It sounds like it wasn't seated all the way. if it came loose that could cause the weird issues you are having. Make sure the lever plastic lever is swung all the way open away from the connector...
