It's the original with a mediocre recovering that was on it when I bought it. It's black underneath

Did you check bump side 73-79 trucks? They are the same too. Even newer ones fit up til 96

More updates
I prepared my other frame with a Tanks brand fuel injected classic mustang tank. Blasted, painted and waiting on a pile of new parts. Currently rolling around a Crown Vic front suspension my friend had laying around.

Nice. How is that crown vic suspension with the truck? I've heard of others doing the same and they liked it.

I put it together last year but it's getting a different chassis this year with a bunch of other upgrades

If you are doing a new frame, why didn't you just do a kick up where the CV IFS bolts on? You could have as much extra drop as you want without giving up suspension travel. Then you could fine tune ride height with springs.

I needed to do a spring rate change anyways. Custom ones were getting made for the reduced weight. Plus moving the front suspension up would put my engine and tranny too high. The trans has limited clearance with the tunnel. Not to mention the lower control arm mounts are right up against the frame curve without some major hacking.

I would have thought the spring rate was pretty close to right. Those trucks are only a couple hundred pounds lighter than a Crown Vic.

BTW....love this project!! Especially since you are keeping the original funky green interior.

Also changed to the all aluminum engine. The ride difference between the donor CVPI and the truck was noticeable. It's going to be an on going project for some years

It is a good time for rear end mods but it will always be a 9".

Where the filler will be, this is a ford OEM piece for long bed trucks that came with a rear tank option. Originally it covered the filler tube

What, you don't like the original setup with the gas tank in the cab behind the seat? What could possibly go wrong with that?
