I'm almost embarassed to ask, but would changing rear gears give different results on the dyno without making any other modifications?
Yes, but i believe the dyno accounts for it.
nobody cares about dyno numbers anyways. ET tells all.
I do not agree with this statement; the gears do affect your dyno numbers and ET does tell all. There is no way for the dyno to account for gears.
so a motor with 3.90's will put down less RWHP than if it had 4.10's?

Our local tuner assures me that lower gears (higher numbers) do register slightly lower rwhp #'s. So, 4.10's will show lower rwhp on the dyno than 3.90's, 3.73's, 3.55's, etc. But, as we all know, the 4.10's will perform better at the dragstrip.
Any guess as to the disparity in whp of 3.55 to 4.10's?
what everyone said is right, they do affect dyno numbers... I went from 428RWHP to 412RWHP when I went from 3.31s to 4.10s, but my 1/8th mile times went down almost 2/10ths
good pointWhich says more for the hot rods cams and s/c since I picked up 41rwhp after the cam swap and 4.10 install
id be pretty damn pissed if i was making 450 to the tire and NOT running at least 11.90sFor those that say f*** numbers, how many of you have ever looked at a thread that said "just got my whipple installed + dyno" or something of the sort to look at the numbers. Yea I agree it’s a tuning tool and who cares if your dyno run says 390 if you’re running high 11's or low 12's. For me though I’d love to be able to say I have 450 at the wheels and can run a 11.90. There are also the people that don't give 2 sh!ts about the track, but to be able to say I have 450, that’s all that matters to them. To each his own!
