I installed mesh screen in the lower and upper openings to keep the condenser from getting beat to a pulp over time. And as you can see, I've opened up the rest of the honeycomb.

Helper hard at work...

Hey man make sure to add a wickerbill (or other raised edge) to the front of the vent--this will increase the effectiveness of the vent extraction.

Definitely... I kicking around the idea of making the top flange on a CNC mill so I can get a nice organic shape that tapers down to hood level, and can ramp up that leading edge.

I played around in Solidworks for a bit today and plan on making the flange on the CNC mill (gotta make sure I can use it). Not only does this look killer, but it will help generate low pressure to draw out more air.

I think I can make this flat from a 1/2" plate of aluminum, then cut a relief notch down the center (underneath) to allow me to bend it to fit the cowl, then weld it up.

I also want to CNC out an intake grill for it. Any suggestions on the pattern / shape?

First I tried a nice sharp utility knife to cut the majority out, but eventually I used the dremel for everything... A small carbide cutter to hog most of it out, then a small barrel sander to clean it up. It's easy to hit the chuck on the front of the grille and mar it. It's not super clean on the inside of the honeycomb, but from a step back you can't really see it.

and flying to the Superbike races at Barber this coming weekend

I was looking for your last name on google (by searching CCS racer 86) to see how your provisional qualifying at Barber went. Didn't find it. But I did find this sexy beast!:naughty1:

Unfortunately, im not racing this weekend, but I will be talking to a potential sponsor for next season. Just gonna hang with friends and watch the racing. Bittersweet.

Watching is tough. I haven’t been to a race since I retired. Have fun and good luck with the sponsorship.

And to get the thread back on track:

Love the heat extractor. If I had an extra hood I would love to do something like that on my 2012. Nice work!:thumb2:

Thanks man

I've been playing around with computational fluid dynamics analysis on the vent. I'll probably post up a cool animation of that soon.

What are you using for CFD? Solidworks?

Cant wait to see regardless.

Seems like if you want it to be an extractor then you need to turn the scoop around
to create a vacuum to pull the hot air up and out.

Hmmm, it is "turned around"

I did pretty well in experimental fluid dynamics

I think he is misunderstanding your drawings as it being a scoop, with the opening above the surface of the hood.

I'm impressed that you are going to build a custom heat extractor. Car looks damn good already.

Also, not to sidetrack and I wish I had posted this in your non-tech thread, but here is Vortech's promo car with the GT500 heat extractor. While it certainly looks cool, it appears too far forward to do any good. You seem to have the right idea.
