For those looking for a nice quality header at a low price, OBX will be releasing their Kooks copy for the 5.0 soon. Stainless 304. I would expect pricing in the ~$450 range.

We've installed a set of OBX headers before on a 3V. They fit like shit and hit on everything. Not a very good copy.

your the first to say that, i followed a handfull of threads on here, everyone loves them! and they all said they fit perfect. i have seen all cars makes and models with obx headers and they all fit perfect. i have even seen a set on a 3v and they look nice, no rubbing or anything, owner said it was the best 430 he ever spent

I'd bet the difference between name brand and knock off is that name brand headers nearly always fit, while knockoffs are hit and miss.

Exactly....

Its amazing to me how a less expensive part always gets these kind of responses. Its almost as if those that have paid premium dollar or sell a higher priced product are trying to make themselves feel better about what they bought or what they sell.

If you ask me there is no real reason why some of these parts that are available cost so much to begin with.

I heard the same thing about OBX's headers for the Lightnings and as much as I dont like how hard it is to get to some of the bolts to tighten them the overall quality is pretty darn good and at 1/2 the cost of what else is out there thats not a bad deal.

I've installed pretty much all of them on all kinds of vehicles and I do have my favorites and I do have one that I consider the lowest quality but what matters to the individual consumer is if its worth the money they spent and what they can afford. That is where the communication between the vendor and customer comes into play.

We have had no problems with any of the brands.

Sometimes it sure seems that way. With that said I would love to see a full side by side comparison of these vs. the kooks.

I said it when they first came out that the LT's out there for 5.0's were ridiculously priced. $1400???

I have OBX on my 2000 Ram Air T/A which is my road race car. They fit perfect and put down an extra 23rwhp on a failry stock motor. I paid $400 shipped. That, I can do. I can't do that much on headers.

If thats the price for OBX headers, at that price, I'll take the risk of maybe not having them fit perfect. I'll just use the old adage, get a big hammer and just keep hittin' it. :)

All i know is for my 3V everyone said Pypes was shitty fitment and quality.. I bought them, laid them next to my buddies Kooks and you really can't tell a difference at all. As for fitment, they fit on better than my buddies BBKs, another friends MACs and were just as easy to install as the kooks. I don't see spending $1500 on headers when the exact same ones for a fraction of the price. They do the same and get the same power. That is just me. When a shop recommended them over Kooks(Brenspeed), that tells you something..

Some people simply can't afford 1200-1400 on headers.

Maybe one of the big header companies should build a non-stainless header for budget minded consumer.

Not everyone lives in the salt belt and even some of those that do don't drive in the winter.

Mild steel headers were good enough for the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s...

You pay a higher dollar for Stainless Works, ARH, Kooks because they actually take the time to do the R&D, Mock-up and they build them in house in the USA.

Other companies take someone elses header, and copy it then get them made over seas for pennies on the dollar. Which is why they are so cheap and always late to the party on products. Because they wait for everyone else to do the real work.

Time is money and the companies that take the time to R&D a nice product are going to charge more because they have more time and effort into it. Plus they have AMERICAN workers building them.

Have other companies give you pictures of the process like BeefCake gave us when his car was at Stainless Works. Everyone wants it cheap, but then complains when they see the unemployment rate. You can't have it both ways.
