PETITION: BFG Rivals in 305/35/18

Many of you know about the BFGoodrich Rival 200 treadwear tires. About 60,000 of you read my first hand Rival review from when I went and drove these back-to-back with several other tires in January 2013 (its on 3 forums including here).

Since then we have used these on about a hundred different customer cars, as well as our own. From endurance road racing, autocrossing, and even time trials the Rivals have exceptionally good wear, driver feel, and grip levels.

The most popular wheel and tire packages we sell for track/autocross/street use on the S197 Mustang includes the following:

  • 18x10" wheel with 295/35/18 Rival ...or...
  • 18x11" wheel with 295/35/18 Rival
_DSC3925-M.jpg

There are two problems with this set-up:

  1. The 295/35/18 Rival is a tick narrow for the 18x11" wheel but the 315/30/18 is WAY too wide
  2. The 295/35/18 Rival has run out of stock 4 times in the past 2 years, sometimes for months at a time. This is our most popular Rival size

So it looks like the Rival is being joined by the Rival S this week, a faster tire geared more towards autocrossers with a slightly worse wear but better grip levels. It looks identical to the Rival, which is going to still be made for the dedicated street cars, more track use and especially for endurance racers.

The launch of the Rival S just happened and the initial sizes are limited to the 10 listed above. What is missing here? The most popular Mustang size: the 295/35/18. Sure, they have the 275/35/18 (too short) and the 315/30/18 (too wide), but not the one tire most of YOU want. Frustrating...

Of course BFG needs to make this size soon, and MAKE THEM IN LARGER NUMBERS, but I think a 305/35/18 would be an even better fit. That size would fit the S197 under stock fenders perfectly as well as work on the C5 & C6 Corvette and other cars as well.

The 295/35/18 Rival on an 18x11" is pretty good, but a 305mm version would be better!

If you want to see the 295 back ASAP and/or would like to see a 305/35/18 size, please reply below! I will send this link to Peter Calhoun of BFG North America and try to get them on board.

Thanks!

For me and my car which is used for mostly autocross, a 305/35/18 would be PERFECT! The jump from 295 to 315 is too great with many other considerations to suspension setup that have to be made when using the 315. Slomaros, Vettes, and others could run a 305 as well and would be a great tire filling a void in the market. If a 305 cant be made 295s need to be more available, more often. A message to BFG: I take hundreds of calls looking for these sizes! HELP!

YES YES YES YES.

If they build it, we will come.

If only one of 305 or 295 is a possibility, then I'd choose the 305's. NOT 305/30/18 though- Gotta be 305/35/18

I'd probably swap to Rivals, if they made a 305/35/18, honestly. It's be nice to have a 200 TW option and not just the NT01/Nitto offerings in that size.

Love my Rivals so far, and yes, it is annoying when we can't get them in the "awesome size." 295/35 or 305/35's please.

I'm also for a size that fit an 18x10 correctly.

I've been running Rivals for 2 years now and always had problem finding a new set

Something wide 35 series would be good, I would be happy with the 295s in stock all the time.

Where are the 19" sizes that were on the BFG website and then disappeared? 305/30-19 would be outstanding as well.

I would love to try these tires, IF they'd make them available and start producing more sizes.

Yes please. I want the 295/35/18.

Here is the reply I received from BFG customer service a few weeks back.
"We apologize the 295/35ZR18 tires are not available for retailers to order. Tod, at this time we do not have a date as to when production will start. If tires are needed soon we suggest you stay with Nitto or Hankook".

Not very promising. If you get them to produce them we will all be sure to purchase them from you.

Tirerack had nothing good to add either regarding availability and tried to move me to the RS3. Tirerack agrees the BFG is the best of its type and that the 295/35/18 would work well on my 18x10 rims but I would lose a bit of their available tread due to wheels not quite wide enough.

Is there an 18 by 10.5 wheel that would work to match up to the 295 better? This size is my ultimate goal, the 305 on 11's or 295 on 10.5's.

That 295 Rival is great on an 11, better than it would be on a 10.5. I wouldn't buy the smaller wheel. I would even put a 285 on the 11.

I hereby supplement this pretition with my digital John Hancock for either of those two sizes and agree with the sentiments of those Racers above me.
