Project Shelby 8.8 Diff brace cover

Well, A board member brought me his Shelby diff cover and asked me to work my magic. He has a 2010 GT 500. He and his Grandpa are piecing together a nice little show car.
It's a nice cover, but dang it's ROUGH and has quite a bit of porosity and some silly angles!

I finished the cover a bit ago with trying to find time to work on it.
I'm not super happy with it. The part had a lot of porosity problems and it was totally pissing me off, especially how nice the part could be if it didn't have the problem! DAMMIT!

Here's it all resurfaced and parts ground and wet sanded. No buffing yet.

Here's it buffed out and polished. I'll prolly let it sit in the sun tomorrow to bake before the owner picks it up.

I took this so the Shelby logo comes out well.

Me too, but it's going on pretty much a show car. When they bring the car in for shocks, springs, arms and welding of the axle tubes, I'll sand down the axle housing and shoot it satin black before I put the cover on.
I'm kinda glad the went all black in the enginebay or I'd be buffing lots more. They have just about every "Shelby" blingy-dingy, but at least they got the upgraded radiator and badass heat exchanger.
At least they didn't blink at my price for the polish. It must have been relief, since they just got back from Shelby in Vegas!

I tried my hand at polishing with my Moroso tanks and finally gave up and just had them plated.

Looking good.. how about painting the shelby inset black and then polishing over the top flat? Will make the lettering stand out and 98% is still polished.

LOL....yup. They're gonna get mirrors for car shows now.

As soon as we get thru this round of mods, I'm gonna teach them how to show prep a car and I'm gonna get them on a Zaino program, since it's fairly easy to do and get great results for an amateur.

I'm still disappointed in the outcome because of the quality of the casting. It wasn't consistent at all. One side of the brace came out beautiful and the other just kept popping up with occlusions. The customer will be ecstatic though. I'm my own worst critic.

Those are easy! 600-800-1000-2000 and buff and polish with Mothers.

Two hours and it's mirror finish.

Yup! I've been using my spare time or down time to get it done during the day.
I've got some Harley transmission covers to do next for a bike that's going to Vegas. Gonna take some stock covers, mod and polish them and then take them to the powdercoater to try some unique coatings. Should be cool as hell for this very unusual bike.
