I got hooked on HPDE's a few years ago and try to hit VIR a few times a year.
This past weekend was the SVTOA Full Throttle Ford Fest and we did a couple days on track.
This is my first time in blue group (advanced) and loved it. Passing in the turns really was a turn off for me, but it's not that bad. No one wants to bump or wreck, so if you don't want to take it, don't and if you don't want to give it, don't. It's all about fun and safety on track.

Anyway, here's a link to our Facebook page album for more pictures from the event: (hey, "like" us while your there ;)

VIR looks like a good track for Mustangs, i.e fast :)

The video showed pretty significant elevation changes and as video always seems to understate the elevation changes they must be really significant!

Ohh yes, lots of elevation changes at VIR. Up hill S's are tons of fun. I enter at 120 and exit about 110.
Then the long back straight has a blind hill that you hit in 5th WOT. I'm hitting 140 most times, but have hit 150+ when chasing a Vette.

The whole complex is top notch!

Yes, VIR is nice. I've done a few ride arounds and have a friend that races Spec Miatas there. I usually try to go for the Rolex but have missed it the last 2 years.

There isn't much I miss about the East coast, but VIR I definitely miss! Great track.

Yes but you have Laguna Seca!

I went there a few years ago to watch the vintage races. The corkscrew must be the ultimate in elevation change.

I was there too. It was a blast, about 4 hours of track time. I ran in the Orange group. I also had my car dynoed there.

I really need a set of GT-500 takeoff wheels. Tires for my TSW 19" front and 20" rears are killing me.
Here's a lap in my car

You had a great instructor. Jamie was one of my instructors and he has great insight and teaches a really good line. He really helped me progress fast at VIR. Looked good out there.

Tucker
Nice lines out there. You were knocking off some great lap times out there.

Thanks Jay. My list in order of priority looks like this:
Eibach Pro R2 Coilovers + caster camber plates - (I have stock shocks with Steeda Ultralight springs. The car is fairly stiff by virtue of being low, but the poor rebound dampening makes it float all over the place at high speed. Also, I want to be able to increase ride height for the street)

Dedicated track wheels/tires - I have NT05s now which are decent, but tires for the 19, 20" rims are expensive and I can't rotate since each tire is specific to its location. I'm looking for a set of 18" GT500 takeoff wheels (Dark Argent) which will clear the Brembros and fit NT01. Do you have another reasonably budget wheel tire config for the track?

Brake ducts - I ordered a Ford Racing kit from CJPP before the FTFF but they were on back order. I ran with new Centric blank rotors and DTC-70/60 pads and check out the heat. I need to do some creating install to get around the intercooler hoses. This is what the pads looked like when I took them off after the event. The pads are about half worn.

I also need an air-oil separator for the two breathers. Currently the one on the right is piped into the air intake before the blower and the one on the left is capped off. I want both piped to a T then to a separator can.

Lastly, I want a Traqmate. :)

That's normal on the pads, mine do it to, means your using them ;)

I just grabbed a set of Drift wheels from Late Model Resto and NT01's from a local shop. THey should be here tomorroe, so I hope to try them out at the Trackdaze event on Nov.

I might have a set of GT500 wheels for sale cheap if your interested. Local guy might buy them, but I'll know soon.

Jay

BTW, my recomendation... spend more on track time fees then parts. Track events are expensive, but I got faster by going 2-3 times a year in the same car.
As I go faster, I see the need for this and that, so I change 1 part at a time.

I only have BMR springs, Metco arms and tires (used beat R888s), but this last time was my first time with the FRPP adjustable Shocks and struts (dynamic).
Felt good and I'm competing with some very fast cars. Next will be new tires/wheels and them sway bars for next year.

Good brake pads, fluid and tires and you can have tons of fun and learn so much.

Thanks for the advice. I'm registered for the Fall Finale event at SP in two weeks.

Let me know if the GT500 wheels are available and for how much. Can you fit NT01s on them?

What are your thoughts about the crankcase breather. Like I said, the left side is capped off. Evolution said not to worry about it, but one of the Ford Racing guys said "very bad idea". In any case, I want an air/oil separator for both breathers, but I'm not sure where to install it or how to plumb it. Here's the engine bay. Any ideas?

I hear you on the parts, but one always has a wish-list I suppose. Plus there was a guy at VIR selling the Eibach R2 coilovers for $1200 which seemed like a great deal.

Jay from Andrew Racing helped me with the brake setup and I wasn't disappointed. I'm running TSR-1 fluid and had no brake issues at VIR.

I know whos car those were on and that is a good deal!

I'm no expert on boosted stuff, but I'd think running a separator on each side would be good, but they must have a reason for capping it. I don't know.

On the passenger side our separator will fit as it comes and then on the driver you would mount it somewhere (apron area) and just go in line from the valve cover, to it, then to where ever the line is now (intake tube I'd guess)

I'll be at SP. I'll be in a blue Super Snake, #235 in HPDE 3. Pls stop by and say hi. Us Mustang guys have to stick together against all the Vettes.

My NT05s have held up surprisingly well. I'm still clear of the wear bars after 4 track events and about 4500 total miles on them. For next year I plan to run 18x9.5 GT500 wheels on all four corners with NT01s.
