ShaftMasters D/S update

Some of you may have followed a vibration issue I was having in the following thread:

I spoke with David@Shaftmasters and we came to an agreement they would send me a prototype unit to test on the car. If it worked and I was satisfied I could purchase it post testing.

Several weeks went by during which I played with pinion angles, street driving and finally a dyno to run the car up to 160MPH.

All said and done the prototype unit worked like a charm.

Technically the shaft is similar to before except the slip yoke was moved from the front to the back of the shaft by the pinion flange.

Wanted to keep everyone updated on the status and thanks to David@Shaftmasters for taking the time to work with me until I was satisfied.

Good to hear, I've only heard good things about shaftmasters when you go to them with a problem like vibration on the 05-10s too. I had a shaftmasters on my 2007 for that reason. luckily I only had minor vibration around 95-100mph, nothing to worry about.

I called them this morning and they told me the person who makes them is off for 5 weeks recovering from back surgery. So it looks like it will be a little while to get one.

So you had a vibration issue, and they made you purchase a new DS instead of giving you a new one?

Shaft master no longer lists a drive shaft for our car on their website.

No. I sent the original back (they paid for shipping and refunded my money) and they offered to send be a prototype to test. If it worked and I liked it, I kept it and paid for it. If it didn't work, they pay to ship it back.

So far I've found Dynatech, Driveshaft Shop, and The Axle Exchange.

Thats crazy that they stopped making them for the 5.0. I picked up mine on a forum for dirt cheap.

Well, there are really only two advantages, strength and weight. It certainly isn't a dramatic change but something that should be on the list of things to do once the more traditional mods are done.

I went with the Axle Exchange 4" DS. It is 100% perfect with no vibration at all. But you have to change the rear pinion flange. No big deal if you have a pully puller.

My car is lowered 1" and it fit with no other mods.

Also, there is absolutely "0" performance inprovements. Definitely do not buy it for that reason alone. I log all my runs at the track and changes for each. I run the same in a given DA as before.

well the reason I was asking is I had installed one and never could get the harmonic noise and the high speed vibration out so I returned it. I was looking at the DSS and didn't want to lose anything performance wise. I've read where it's supposed to help and then you're the second to tell me that it made no improvements in ET.

I had one on my 06 and had no vibration what so ever
