i've noticed that it is impossible to go from 2nd gear to 5th gear, it will not go unless you move the shifter to 3rd or 4th first

the fact that it will not do it isnt that big of a deal, but the fact that it should do it makes me worry about future issues

the whine has gotten slightly louder, but i still dont think it is loud enough for the dealer to consider it a problem

atistang, are you still using the stock fluid?
yep, kinda waiting to see if this whining is going to get louder before i swap fluids. if i have to take it in for trans issues i dont want to give them any reasons to void the warranty

on top of that we got some weather coming that will probably make them salt the roads, so tomorrow will probably be the last time i drive it until spring

as far as i know its the pre tsb fluid

^You can store the ford fluid in a jug and swap it back in incase the mtg doesn't correct your problem. It's a fairly easy swap. You need a metric Alan wrench set and a hand pump from Walmart or a $10 one from the auto parts store.

They can't void the warranty for using Amsoil MTG. It meets, and exceeds, the requirements of the pre-TSB Ford fluid. In fact, you may make the fluid swap and problems go away.

I always tell people who insist to buy the new 2011+ 5.0 with the MT-82.....better change the fluid immediately.

i thought about that, but if it happens to leave me stranded and i vot to bring it in on the hook...

True, but if they wanted to be dicks then I'd have to argue that. I'll decide what to do this spring

You don't have to argue anything. Amsoil recommends this fluid for the MT-82, and it's posted on their website. This means it's covered under Amsoil's warranty. If Ford voids the warranty, drop a phone call to Amsoil, they love to set auto manufacturers straight.

Is Amsoil quick at sending out their products?

I agree that you should get the ford fluid out ASAP! The sooner the better.
I drained mine and put MTL in at 900 miles. I'm waiting on the MGW now.
I am switching because the MTL has been a bit notchy in cold mornings. Nothing like the notchy shifting with the stock fluid though.

Yes, they have 10 distribution centers across the 48 states. This means you are never more than 2 business days UPS shipping away from your order. Yours would ship from Vegas.

I personally know someone with a 3V. He took it in for loud engine tapping. The dealership diagnosed it a a bad TC tensioner but wouldn't cover it under warranty because he used RP oil. My friend told them that they had no problem last year replacing the other side under warranty. They refered him to the rep and after few months and nothing happening he said FI and threw in some thicker oil which has seemed to have solve the issue. Ford knows very well how to be a bunch of DH's when they want to but I still would get rid of that crap they put in your transmission. I believe that if the trans doesn't go up within the warranty period eventually it probably will after it's over if you don't use a good fluid especially if you get cold weather for any extended period of time. MTG is for me. My 2 cents.

Wow, they blamed the engine failure on RP? The owner should have took that tidbit of information to Royal Purple themselves.

That's the problem with some owners, they take the dealers/rep word as gospel. If they will not comply, make it a bigger issue. Make the issue so big, Ford will PAY to make it go away.

^There are 2 Ford dealerships that I will not buy from and that is one of them. No one should have to go through that when thy spend $30,000+ dollars for a car. That same dealership had a $5000 dealer markup in 2007 on GT's when everyone else was asking sticker also. I'll get off the tangent now.

Wow, I knew of dealers doing invoice on 2006 GT's

I was looking at the MSDS for the "Dual Clutch" fluid (XT-11-QDC) and it states the fluid has a kinematic viscosity of 32 under ASTM 445 (the standard 40 C/100 C ratings). A temperature is not listed, but at 32 C only makes sense; thus, the "Dual Clutch" fluid is thinner than all ATF's (Mercon, Dextron, ATF +4, etc.). Kind unsettling if you ask me. Take a look on the "FCSD Motorcraft Chemicals" website...

Ment to say, "at 40 C".

Mountain,

You are very correct sir. Ford's dual clutch fluid is a lighter viscosity than ATF. It's about the same viscosity as LV ATF. Here is a virgin oil analysis of Dual Clutch fluid.

ed48b1ba.jpg

The viscosity @ 100*F is only 6.28 cSt, that's very thin, in fact...thinner than the 20 grade lubricants I refuse to use in any Ford modular engine. Ford thought this would solve cold weather grinding. It takes more than a thinner viscosity to solve grinding. This fluid not only failed to solve the grind, it increased gear roll over noise because it was so light. The gears lost the extra "cushion".

For reference, here is a used oil analysis of the OEM pre-TSB gear oil used in the MT-82.

It has a much thicker viscosity, and since it's uses a cheap base stock, it makes the MT-82 grind itself to death. In this UOA report, I can see a very low flash point on the OEM fluid. This indicates cheap group II base stocks. Not good!

I really want a VOA and UOA of Amsoil MTG.

I'm anxious the see if the MTG is better than the MTL I am using right now. I am getting some notchy 1-2 shifting again since it has got cold outside with using the MTL.

MTG is a little thicker than MTL, so I like this since everyday here in the summer gets over 100. It's been very cold here this month. We have 12" of snow on the ground right now.
