cant you order the front cover already grinded down from FRPP?

Not sure. Whatever it costs wouldn't be worth the price. Assuming it's the price of an OEM cover, I'd rather do this than pay for one and have to swap the timing covers.

Less expensive and time consuming this way.

I do know that the Aluminator comes with the modified cover.

Here it is all cleaned up.

Hey guys. I am getting ready to install a Roushcharger on my 2012 GT, and when I started looking at the timing cover to see what needed ground down, I noticed my cover is different than the one the OP pictured. My cover does not have the ribbing and is machined for a tensioner. I searched the net but couldn't find any information that stated a timing cover change for 2012. Is it possible I got an Aluminator cover? Car was built on 8/12/11 and I purchased it new, so I know it's OEM. Part number cast into the cover is BR3E-6019-CB.
Any insight?

Yep mine has the new cover also built 6/15/11. according to the new Roush install instructions you still have to do some grinding but allot easier. I'll know for sure I'll be installing it on my car in two or three weeks. May do and install vid.

The new cover is for a new tensioner that is now available along with a new AC compressor belt for the 6MT's that have the knock noise.

I have the new cover on my 2012 GT auto trans. Doesn't look like I'll have to much grinding to do. :)

The Magnuson TVS2300 kit for the 5.0 has a CARB EO, it requires no grinding or wire loom changes like the Roush/FRPP kits, no drilling and tapping like the Edelbrock kit, no blower belt tensioner mounted in the same piece of real estate as the new A/C belt tensioner discussed above like the Edelbrock, and and you don't have to send your PCM to Roush for a reflash that locks the ECU.

What's not to like?

One plus for the FRPP/Roush kit is that if you install it, you don't need the TSB belt tensioner - the SC tensioner accomplishes the same thing.

Fhe grinding on the FRPP/ Roush kits are super easy. To me that was the easy part of the install, the depinning was the hard part for me. The grinding you just need to take your time.

I havent seen one of the new covers up close and personal, but I would almost think that you could use the new tensioner and idler pulley instead of the massive and pain in the butt FEAD bracket.

It's uglier than sin.

Also, their website doesn't even show that 2011+ are supported:

That's exactly what I am thinking too. I have extra Ford tensioners and idlers laying around. Might have to see what I can up with.

To me they don't make enough power. I had chance to send my manual car to them to have a blower put on. Price for blower was cut in half and free install and tuning. The blower is only good for about 14lbs of boost as they told me. With 14lbs and E85 they told me I could expect about 600whp 580wtq. Biggest reason I didn't do it. No room to grow over 14lbs of boost and some low power numbers compared to other blowers out there. They even offered to get car into magazines for a install article. Just wasn't worth it all for such low numbers.

A 2.3 Whipple comes pretty damn close to those numbers at 10psi on good ol pump 93 with a JLT intake.

My biggest turn off from the maggie is how fugly it is. Stupid reason I know but its fugly.

Notice you said 10lbs on 93...They said 14 on E85...I made 620 on 10lbs on 93 with my Paxton in an auto with stock exhaust. And they was going to do my 2011 manual car with full exhaust.

And yes it is ugly as hell. But If I had grabber blue the blue one would look sharp.

Not true
I have a magnuson on my 2011 automatic. The magnuson is a 2.3L TVS same as the roush - rotors and bearing plate(the silver plate on both) are bought from eaton and are the same. Housing and inlet are made in house at both magnuson and roush. my automatic car with stock airbox(drop in K&N flat panel) and stock exhaust (cats and all-minus mufflers(I run muffler delete pipes) running a 3.9 inch/99mm pulley made 6 pounds of boost and 531 rwhp. Same shop, same dyno a 2011 stick car with a roush 2.3L TVS kit with all stock exhaust and open element air filter running a 3.55 / 90mm pulley (smaller then magnuson - more boost) made 8 pounds of boost (2 psi more than mine) and the car made 518rwhp.

yes they are ugly (different) but they work! look at the E-force and Techo has front inlet and now whipple is making some front inlet designs.

All of that is easily solved by ordering the 2.9 whipple from the start for an extra $600.

The biggest down side on the TVS is it is still a roots blower and not a twin screw. Twin screw will always produce more boost, faster and more efficiently than a roots blower.

The new front covers that do not require grinding were developed for Ford's "aluminator" crate motor. I guess Ford decided to just make the one cover now and put them on production engines too.

There is actually a "tensioner kit" available from Ford. It is for the "knock" noise associated with stretchy belt on the AC.

Part number BR3Z 8620 DA

You really don't need a 2.9 unless you are going for big power, and for big power you should get a built motor.
