Just added a quick writeup on my install of the extractor. I was already working on my car, and for the price of the extractor, I couldn't not do it.

I only had to take a very small piece out for my vents.
There are many styles of louvered vents to choose from.

OT, but is that Antelope Island? I go to Ogden once a year for a winter vacation....

It would certainly help; the cheaper solution would be to install a set of hood pins.

Also check out GenRight Off Road (Jeeps and off orad vehicles). I used a the 5 piece vent kit (though cut the double row wide units in half) and added them to my hood. I avoided cutting any bracing and tried to keep them as far away from the high pressure area near the base of the windshield...

one picture with the slots cut, one picture with the vents just in position and a picture with the hood on the car completed.

I was looking at the hood inserts on the new 2013 Boss 302 at the auto show. Unfortunately they wouldn't let me lift the hood to see how the inserts looked from the bottom :(

They popped the hood on the Boss 302 I saw but there was so much padding under there you couldn't see how it was attached... they are actually functional, just really tiny openings.

They also had a 2013 GT500 at the show and it still has the same vent so it must be good enough for getting rid of the heat of 650 HP, well above my 445 HP :)

I'll be really interested in your installation of the GT500 Part. Do you have a Ford PN for it? Is there a place to get a deal on the Part?

My big concern with the heat is stop and go city driving in the summer. Sometimes when I get home from work the hood is almost too hot to touch. That can't be good for the long term life of the various plastic and rubber parts under the hood.

I am sure they R&D'd the plastic parts well beyond the limits of daily driving. As for the hood, is it the factory one? Metal will obviously absorb heat much easier and will hold it much better than plastic...

My hood is the stock aluminum one and I have removed the insulation/sound deadener panel as well.

thats what I assumed... without the insulation the factory hoods will get very warm.

IIRC i will get back to you on the part number, pm me and ill see my price from an old buddy at ford. i bought mine for $65 so im sure it isnt much more than that.

as far as the GT500 vent, its abs plastic so i can absorb plenty of heat no issues. i will be riveting mine down at the corners with the black flat faced window rivets just to add a little security.

I'm picking up my new brake rotors at the Ford Dealer tomorrow in preparation for the new season and will ask them about the GT500 part.
