Just discovered this latest upload from Brenspeed on the B326. Not only is the HP number nice but damn....look at the torque! 648! I'm thinking the TVS 2.3L aint so shabby on this engine after all! I saw this car in the shop when I was up there a few weeks ago. Nice vert!

Thanks Terry. The guys at Brenspeed as you know are top notch and got me back on the road reliably pretty quick.

I hope I get to see the Tiger Machine soon. You've got a real monster there. You've done a great job with that beautiful Bullitt! Have you taken your car to Cars and Coffee on Saturday mornings in Cool Springs? I have yet to check it out.

Hi Tim,

Man to be honest it has not even entered my mind about the Cool Springs thing. :oops1:

Refresh my memory you are where here in TN. ???

I'm right now talking with Brent at BRENSPEED about a few (Modest) changes but nothing has been decided.

This Thread you did was excellent I enjoyed reading all of it.

I'm about 15 minutes south of you down in Spr Hill. Tell Brent I'm very happy and that Ryan did a great job building my engine. Almost a thousand miles later of me pouncing on it and there are absolutely no problems.

So what are you doing to your car? That Bullitt is already smokin fast!

i'm in the same boat. 480 for 25k miles and blew the side out of the block. your story sounds soooooo friggin familiar its scary not to mention the damage to your stock block is pretty much identical to what mine looked like.

Yeah, Brent told me the rods can get micro stress cracks and go for a while that way. Then when just the right amount of load is applied then SNAP! I have seen quite a few 4.6 blocks where they window on the #8 cyl. When they disassembled it there were no signs of detonation. Boosting a stock block is always a gamble.

Boosting any block is a gamble. Most people on this site that make 600 or more rwhp seem to be building a new engine every year or 2. A forged motor still has its limits think of it like this stock block genereally 450 to 500 will last for a little while before it lets go. Forged 600 to 700 for a period of time and then it will let go. At a higher level of horsepower just the slightest little thing can cause major damage.

Very true. It's an addictive risky fun hobby though

Well, I knew it was risky, but I had always thought 440 would be safe enough!.... I'm above 470rwhp/455wtq at 12psi on stock motor.... 1yr and 22k miles so far.

Hopefully when (not "if") mine pops, I can save the heads too!

Something that doesn't get discussed often is the preventative maintainence of a high horsepower motor. Very few plan regular tear down and inspection. I would think that regular inspection (two years?) and fresh bearings would help built motors that are thrashed on a regular basis live longer.

I will second BruceH comments! Also add that you can still break a built motor! Forged and quality components just buy you insurance. There is always a risk when pushing components hard.

well said.

i do it every year mostlly summer time since its ver hot over here. I just took the motor out to inspect few weeks ago, replaced the connecting rod bearings and piston rings. and all the other gaskets. my last dyno was 914@18psi race gas. Tha was in jan. been driving it since summer of 2012 with no problems.

I agree Bruce. IMO though, everything I read when related to failures of engines that are well built and forged seems to point to two common themes: detonation destroying a piston, breaking ring lands etc and over boosting blowing out head gaskets or lifting heads. I think the most responsible thing I can do to beat the odds is to keep boost at a reasonable level and run E85 on a return style system. Now there are a lot more guys out there with more "performance" experience than I so my ears are always open. So, I would think that 700 rwhp on a 1000hp rated build running 15-17 psi would not be so harsh that a tear down would be necessary every couple years or x amount of miles. I only put 5k miles or less on my car per year. But an all out race motor, 1000 rwhp + high boost 25+ lbs I can definitely see that. Bearings and thrust washers/bearings take a serious pounding. So for that reason, I think at least for me that limiting my setup to 700 rwhp on a 1000 hp rated block and keeping boost below 17 psi should be reliable for quite a while. Basically I'm going to go with whatever the tuner recommends. I have been exchanging emails with Bob Kurgan with Kurgan Motorsports down in Atlanta on my hp goals and the two routes I narrowed it down to get there. That will be either the 3.4L Whipple DOB r spec kit or the S&H twin turbo kit. Bob said with my stroker 700 rwhp is easy with an E85 return style system and 80 lb injectors. He also stated that running up to 20 psi on TTY bolts is not an issue. Bob has a great reputation for high performance builds so most likely my car will be going to him for tuning. All I can say for right now is stay tuned lol.

Great. I can see why you love that place. Brent is a real down to earth honest guy that tells the truth and not what you want to hear just to make a sale. Best customer service I've ever had from beginning to end. Have fun and take some pictures.

Personally I dont understand how anyplace can rate something to 1000hp it makes no sense. Its not like there is a guarrantee or anything of that nature. To me its just jibberish each motor same internals or not will have its own problems. Its not like when there put togther they throw 1k horsepower at them and even if they did big whoop it can hold that power for what 5 seconds 10 seconds would prove nothing. Im not a master mechanic or anywhere close but after being on this forum Ive seen alot of blown motor threads on high dollar builds and for the most the answer is simply that shit happens. Take a 15 or 20k dollar gt500 engine They blow easily around 700 rwhp and thats been through alot of research and development.

As far as 700rwhp yes easy peasy just takes boost. Will it last thats yet to be seen. I spent a bunch of money without really researching limits and everytime I stomp the peddle I wonder if its going to hold together.

As far as taring it down personally I dont think its viable for most as most dont have the room or tools needed so if paying someone to pull the motor and go through it might as well wait for it to blow while saving money for a new one.

Seems a rather depressing discussion... But I like Timmbo's approach to 700 rwhp. I'd like to achieve 625 with a Livernois block/heads and my KB - at least close.
