The differential that I am shortening is part number DR3Z-4010-A, I have the Ford Racing install kit part number M-4210-B1 however the inner pinion bearing race that is already in the housing is significantly deeper and larger in diameter than the race in the M-4210-B1 kit.

What is the part number for the correct inner pinion bearing for the DR3Z-4010-A housing?

The race currently in the housing.

The race with the B1 kit bearing.

The B1 kit race sitting inside the race in the housing. Clearly too small in diameter.

the p/n you provided is a GT500 rear end assy, right? I think you need M-4210-B2 kit (skip to the 3:00 mark in the vid below)

Yes it is a 14 GT500 differential. Thanks for the information, but I do not believe the M-4210-B2 kit contains the correct inner pinion bearing. Here is a quote from the B2 kit description: "Note: does not fit 2013 Boss or GT500 with axle codes S-215-D and S-219-D" From what I can tell the correct inner pinion bearing part number is 6L2Z-4625-AB. Can anyone confirm this?

The 2013 GT500 went to a larger pinion bearing ... 6L2Z-4625-AB

Since you have the race, Timken P/N for the bearing is M-802048 ... Used with race M802011

Perfect, have one on order already. Only $17.60 in Canada and I am guessing the Ford bearing and race would be $100.00 or more. Thanks!

I have a couple of these bearings available if anyone needs one.

Have one here as well... the lovely folks at FRPP told me that part number wast he bearing used in the S197 rebuild kits... drove 45 minutes to get the only one in the state only to find out that the $125 part is the wrong part. When I went to return it I was told they don't accept returns on bearings unless they are in the original unopened package...

Did Ford switch over to the GT500 bearing in 07? Because I'm looking at the stock pinion bearing out of my car right now and it looks exactly like that bearing on the left. My installer seemed to have no issue installing the GT500 bearing in my 08 car as well. I have the B2 kit in my car.

Yours shouldn't have the same one as the '13+ GT500. All GT500s from 2007-2012 used the older style bearing which is included in the M-4210-B2 kit.

The 2007-2012 GT500 and all 2010+ GTs used P/N 9L3Z-4630-A

The 2013-2014 GT500 and 2013 Boss used P/N 6L2Z-4625-AB

Do the 13/14 bearings look similar to the older style 07-12 pinion bearing? I would imagine that there is no issue swapping to the 07-12 GT500 bearing in the normal GT since they all use the same axle housing, correct?

No, the 13/14 bearings are considerably larger, as shown in the picture above. Yes, you can run a '12 GT500 bearing in an 05-11 no problem. But definitely not a 13/14 bearing.

Since I am starting with both a new housing and pinion I do not have an existing pinion shim to measure. Accordingly, what is the recommended starting point for a new build, I was thinking of using a .030” shim to start does that sound about right?

Knowing I am going to have to remove the pinion bearing several times to get the shim thickens right I broke down and ordered a second M802048 bearing. Will apply a Dremel carefully and make one into a setup pinion bearing.

I wouldn't recommend mix matching bearings and races. New vs old and brand vs brand, even the same brand. The ford racing bearing install kits even can have different bearings and races, I compared two a while back and they had different Koyo USA part numbers. I learned this the hard way. The best thing to do is replace the bearings and races together as a complete kit.

What race are you using with that bearing? Get the matching timken race. They are easy to come out if you use a torch to heat the housing around it, then from the pinion side use a BFH and a flat head screw driver. There is a spot that is indented that you can fit the flat head in. Work it out slowly or it will get cockeyed and will be hell to get out. I install them by heating the housing with the torch, put the race in the freezer, then hit it with a sock the same diameter as the outer part of the race.

I would also recommend using a solid spacer vs a crush sleeve. Reuse the old pinion shim to start, .030" is a good starting point for guessing.

Steve, thank you so much for the picture of the 6L2Z-4625-AB bearing and cone. I picked one up today and it fits the DR3Z housing perfectly. I am from Canada so it did not make sense for me to order from TASCA, but if I was in the USA I certainly would have. Thanks again!

Ford 6L2Z-4625-AB is a perfect fit in the in the DR3Z-4010-A axle housing. From what I can see on the bearing the KOYO part number is KYO4190LFT (this is NOT confirmed).
