Could I hypothetically connect these bulbs to an aftermarket HID ballast? Just wondering since these don't leak like the aftermarket bulbs. Can anyone chime in on this?

You'd have to get a D3x type ballast. These bulbs use a different type of harness. They are available in the plug and play variety such as these:
