Tires and Rims

Someone who doesn't care about suggesting me some tires and rims for the 05 mustang for traction please tell me what you bought. I'm getting a drag package installed but even with the things I have on her now I still lose traction but hoping the drag package helps or should I go ahead and get the lightweight rims and 15-inch tires with lots of side walls too?

I ran a set of Nitto NT555G2s on all 4 corners. They we’re noisy, slippery and did not ride well. Terrible straight line traction. Replaced them on rear with NT05R 315-40-18 on 10” wheels. They are better. Still stiff. Terrible on wet ground and I can spin them in third gear.
I don’t suggest you try Nitto tires. I do like my Torque Thrust M wheels.

Best legal DOT street tire for dry traction is going to be the MT ET Street R. Setting up rear suspension geometry is key also. You will have to play with the suspension a bit to get it dialed in for your particular car. I have been through multiple spring/shock combos, sway bar changes and deletes, and played with my anti-squat numbers to dial my car in. But the best way of maintaining traction is through your right foot. I'm able to spin up through third by just mashing the pedal, but I have learned in my car a more gradual application of the pedal produces better results. I mash the pedal till about 3/4 and then modulate the last bit of throttle as I feel it can handle. It probably takes about 1/2 to almost a full second before I'm on the floor. But you have a different power curve than me. In my turbo vert I tend to mash the pedal and then as the rpms climb I ready myself to pedal or lift a bit as I get into the power and then get it back on the floor. Either way your never going to completely harness the power without some throttle control.

Now if we are talking track only we can have a whole other discussion.

Yes, the best advice that's kind of what I do now. I was just wondering with the small tires 15inch ones with more sidewall would maybe finally give me the green light.

Talked to American Muscle yesterday and if it doesn't hook up after this last application I'm replacing the back wheels with new wheels and rims. The funny thing is I have four months to wait since nothing is in stock but one Bullitt 10 rim. I have the 9 inches 18-inch rim and the new tire is 305/35/18s wow I might do that for just looks alone.

Contact Forgestar direct. I just ordered a full set from them and they had plenty of stock. Order direct and if you are a military vet mention that and they will give you 10% off like they did me. AM won't give you that and does not offer the full Forgestar lineup. now I just need a car to put them on...but that is a story for another time.

Well, I had to order another set of rear rims to make them fit. I already ordered them but darn I have no patience it's going to look like a competitor it will give me something to look forward to. I'm spoiled rotten.

Will someone post pictures of their Mickeys on their s-197? My wheels have arrived and I'm excited about when and how they will look when finally mounted. Even better if you have the 305/35/18s.

Got a little confused here. Are you looking for a 15" wheel or something larger? I picked my race stars up local, years back with virtually new tires for 600. Due to the size I like in the rear? I am down to 2 options. One is a slick and the other is a NT555. Hasn't really impressed me. I also barely drive the mustang. Fronts are whatever is cheap. They are my stock size in a 17×7. The wheels are showing age. Will get them cleaned up in a black chrome or gunmetal.

If your looking to purchase new wheels? Look local used for something clean as a good deal.

Online? I would search AM clearance. Maybe some other companies (wheelfire) for price comparing styles. If I do get a different or track wheel set-up. I will search SVE. Years back they had a Darkstar style wheel which was packaged less expensive. Years later still debating if I want to do a rear wheel of 15x10 or 18x 10.5. Budget vs looks.

18 x8 front with 235 2SPS tires and 18 X 10 rear with 305/35 R18 MT's. I use Nitto NT05R II's on the street, as MT's handle like garbage, even on dry pavement. Nitto's give up some traction, but at least have moderately good handling (for a drag radial).

If you're doing fats/skinnies and don't need a dot stamp, the MT Pro Bracket Radials are the best.
